###### I need this game, I just finished reading the tales from frontline thread <shudders>...so good....

Alright then, 1) Are there 'clips' to reload in the marine guns or is it like 100 or so bullets and thats all you get? I'm thinking about the pistol here, is it for saving your ### during a reload or is it for saving your grenade launcher ammo until you can get to a building?

and 2) Are there restrictions as to where you can build? Notably the hive which looks to be a little on the ginormous side. Do marines build multiple command centers?

I can just see my marks in school this year if this gets release soon...

    1) As far as I know you have a certain Amount of Ammunation instead of a certain amount of clips. Just like HL or CS...

    2) As far as I know there is a "Area of influence" for the commander, for example you can only build turrets in a fixed area around a turret-factory. Hives have I think 3 fixed starting-locations from which one is randomly choosen at the beginning.
Yes, you can build multiple Command-Centers, but you can only use one at a time.

But as always: SUBJECT TO CHANGE or COMPLETELY WRONG ...

Oh, welcome to the Forums, have a nice stay, be carful with dark corners and read all those FAQs...

Ammo works like Halflife - you have a clip, and you have additional ammunition. Sidearm is *great* for saving your @$$ when your primary is empty... especially since NS's pistol does nearly as much damage per bullet as the HMG.

Commanders can only build on flat surfaces, and some buildings must be placed near others (turrets must be within radius of a turret factory, for instance). Alien hives can only be built in 3 locations on each map; each location is denoted by "Hive Room" in the info_location, as well as extensive infestation in the room. Other alien buildings can be built anywhere.

Resource Towers, of course, can only be built on a resource node.

Very nice, thanks guys. If anyone's still checking this thread, I just had a heart attack when I realized that no mention has been made of alien 'commanders'! Is there no top down position for the aliens?!?

Nope. No commander for the aliens, just the hive mind.

Well you've just blown my mind. What exactly is the hive mind then, is it just the ability to 'sense' your teammates and the enemies they see along with the fear scent thing and parasite?

In a sense, yes. It's kind of like a wallhack, you can see where all your teammates and important buildings (such as hives) are at all times, regardless of location. This also applies to parasited or recently attacked marines.

hehe i found it This is from the mapping guidelines:

If area is not a func_seethrough, then if entity is not blocked by a func_nobuild, then if surface is not textured with "nobuild" texture, then if surface is less then a 45 degree slope, then if surface is not under water, lava, slime, sky, etc, then it's a valid build spot.

That is one NASTY nested if. Almost looks like my Scheme code

The marine style of play impresses upon you the importance of teamplay. Stick with your teammates, you're going to need them. Listen to your commander, you're REALLY going to need him/her. The aliens, on the other hand, have the wallhack-like ability. They can see their teammates, enemies their teammates see, their buildings, and so on. So, if you see your buddy run into a room next door containing a room full of marines, you can join them, if you want, or continue on your way.

An extremely simplified view of it would be: if you want teamplay, walk through the "Marine" door. If you're in a deathmatch-y mood, take a trip down Alien Lane.

Both styles are covered, and either would be fun to me!
