How To Find The Main Hive In Some Secs

restower check
ok so i have a little problem. one time a comm told me that he checks out the main hives by holding a restower over the resnodes at the different hives. if it is occupied he knows that they have their mainhive there. BUT... i tried it and i had to build the res tower before i knew if they have a restower there or not. did i make something wrong? cause its not too good to have a restower standing alone somewhere. and if you want to relocate in this hive and the aliens see the restower the should (if they have a little brains) know that somethings goin on there.

by the way. how many res do you get for recycling? do you get these res if the recycling process is complete or per second? or something else?

As soon as the game starts click over the 3 hives, whenever you hear the alien rt and the the skulk footsteps then you know the hive is there, that RT method sounds stupid as you have pointed out.

    i agree
    however
sometimes listening to RTs' voices is hard
    ns_nothing for example
both silo and viaduct are located on the lower part of the level, so the voices their RTs make are weaker.

yeah, but then you just listen to the other hives which you can hear. if you dont hear owt, the hive you cant hear anyway is hive. or somethin

I always thought comms tried to drop medpacks through the hive, and if it drops and goes really slow where the hive should be, then drops out when it would be around the bottom, that was how you knew where the hive was. I knew there was always listening, but I just thought comms spent those few res to find the hive D:.

I thought the color of the res tower was different depending on whether or not there is already an alien rt (red if you can't place one, green if you can). I could be wrong, though.

usually you listen to the hive or the resource tower in it or claw-sounds around it (that's the skulks, listen for them on the pathways around the hive as well)

if there is too much ambient noise, then there are two ways to determine if it is the hive

    1. eliminate the possibility of the hive being in the other 2 locations using the normal method
    2. drop resource tower at the hive(s) in question - if it builds, then you're going to go there anyway, if it doesn't then there's the hive. Most of the time there will only be one hive with a lot of noise in it.

one last way is to use your marines, depending on where and when they encounter the skulk you can tell from where the skulk came from

Sarisel's so got it covered. My only addition is that there's a significant advantage (multiple, actually) to using marines, as long as you're using certain tactics.

    A) If your marines are scouting hives, that means you're going to lockdown a hive (or hives). That's always good. If they're sitting on their arses waiting for you to listen, they're so not scouting/securing.

    B) If your marines find the enemy hive, they can pressure it. That's definitely a plus.

    C) Listening and any other comm oriented tactic requires comm concentration, and in the early game, you really should use that in getting your minions organized and distributed, buildings dropped, etc...

If you're really having trouble finding the hive, here's a little something for you. Drop medpacks! Drop them on where the hive is, if you can't or it sinks slowly, there you go!

In 3.0 use ammo packs instead of medpacks because they are cheaper. I am just guessing that they would work the same way.
