Any1 Kno? Says My Cd Key Cannot Be Used Valve Sys

I put my CD key in when I installed Half-life original and I go through everything, get the patch and DL NS and I get the server list and when I try to join a game I get this message. " Your CD key cannot be used on the valve system" well FU valve but can anyone help I really want to play NS and I dont want to have to go buy another copy of HL just for the friggin Key. Is there a way to circumvent this? Or if anyone has a key that works that they dont need anymore I would be most gratefull.

1) give us the exat error message! (I have never seen an error message worder like that before)
Also give us system specs (specificaly Steam or WON; HL or CSr or DoDr)

2) Don't ask for a CD key (that is piracy, something the board mods don't stand for)

3) It is possible (though VERY unlikely) that some one has stolen your CD key. (don't bother with this till after we have tried other soutions)
The solution to this is to contact sierra/valve tech support, tell them your problem in full. They will ask for you to send proof (generaly the jewlcase with the CD key on it) and they will get you a new one.

thats the exact message I get, normally you'd probably get "your CD key is invalid" but instead it says, "Your CD key cannot be used on the valve system", its original Half-Life version 1.1.1 original H-L CD key so I dunno what the heck. Guess ill try what you said, although I doubt they'd pay for my shipping, what a pain. icq 39401321. I've reinstalled twice now and still get this, I dont think i'm doing anything wrong but maybe I am who knows, Ill e-mail sierra and see what they say. Of course they'll treat me like a retard and maybe i deserve it. maybe...

Other Mods work?
Make sure your connecting to an apropriate server (aka WON b/c that is what you are on)

I dont know what STEAM is, do I need that? I just downloaded the 1.1.1.0 patch or whtever it is and I got NS on there and I go into NS in internet game
get all the way into the net game list and I click on a game and immediatly this triangle sign comes next to the room, screen flashes, I click again and get the message. really frustrating. Just an opinion but after they retail boxed CS for 39.99 when it was a free mod before, they deserve a little piracy.

Steam is going to be the new servers/server types for HL

Also NS3.0 will be steam only (seeing how as WON servers suposedly are going down soon)

I would suggest trying to set up steam and seeing if it will work (look at the webbed threads on top of this page to see stuff about how to install)
