Clans breaking their own rules
I just got out of a series of games of a server owned by a clan which I won't name, and I'm **** off. First I was on the team that the clan was stacking, and they spent the whole game insulting the people on the team who hadn't played the map before. Apparently I'm a retard for not knowing about a map bug on a map I've never played. The next game, I played as aliens while they stacked marines, and when half the people on my team asked them to enforce the no res whoring rule on a pair of teammates who refused to gorge, they ignored us. One of those players ended the game with around 90 res, even though we had never gotten a 2nd hive. The next game, more res whoring, plus we get outnumbered, at some points by as much as 11 to 6, just barely enough for us to not forfeit the game. Then, to even the teams, one of the clan members came to our side and started attacking our one hive. Conveniently, friendly fire was on. Then the clan started insulting our team for getting our **** kicked so bad. Why is it that clans think it's okay to selectively enforce their server rules like this? Why do people put up with it?

A: It's their server, their rules. They can enforce them however they like.
B: They only have the power on their server. If you don't like the atmosphere, do what anyone else would do, play somewhere else.
Theyre running someone elses software, and for a first time nser the time spent in that server will go towards their first impressions of the game, which then reflect directly on Flayra.

I have to agree, but only to a point. I havn't played CS in about a year, because the community is mainly made up of morons. I don't judge the dev team based on the majority of the players, and I respect them for getting where they are.
That said...
The number of servers is still fairly low, and it will be vital to the success of NS. This is why bashing servers is generally frowned upon, dispite how... Intolerable they may come across. The Steam community is even smaller, but overall, I find it far more tight-knit.
Unfortunately, being the moderator of a server is a MASSIVE power trip. Back in the day when I ran a CS server, and gave admin. powers to the friends of my cousin, I realized what a big mistake that was. They were total, immature ****, so I stripped them of their admin. powers until they learned their damn lesson, and even then - I didn't restore full control to them, because they simply could not deal with all that power in their hands. From what I've discovered - most people find it difficult to do so.
Heh, heh...to quote Spiderman: "With great power comes great responsibility."
To all the server operators who think that it's "cool" to abuse your power...you are ambassadors of NS - treat others as you would like to be treated, and help attract the kind, and good people that make up a solid community.
I don't think that threads like this should be "locked," or "ignored," either. These are legitimate excuses to an ever-growing problem amongst servers in games *besides* Natural Selection.
Heck, I think you should offer to be PMed regarding the identity of this server so that the rest of us don't come across people like this.
I for one, have had ENOUGH bad servers (which there are plenty). Something needs to be done.
Why do you think most people laugh at the new vets?
If they are abusing their powers, let it be. Soon enough the server will always be empty and the server fees? That my friend, is called wasted money for an empty server.
Try looking at it from all directions. You and other players don't play there, they don't get any players to practise on except for themselves, and soon the server is deserted. I don't see what we can do.
Let's try this again...in a list
- You and other players leave server
- They don't have anyone else to practise on except themselves
- They get bored of the same old strats....over....and over....and over....
- Server deserted. Money used to pay server fees = wasted.
Remember, it's not what we can do, it's what you can do.
And since this is generally a server bashing thread (even without the clan's or server name), and possibly won't be tolerated, it will most likely be locked. Looks like its time to press that magical shiny button....
How can it be server bashing when he...
1) never mentioned a server name
2) never mentioned a clan name
?
Seems to me it's just someone who's disgruntled about the fact that admins on many servers only enforce rules when they feel like it, and as such wants to discuss it AND what course of action you can take against it.
As most people said, if it's a clan server, then you may as well find somewhere else to play, seeing as there's likely no higher up admin you can complain to, and if the whole clan was there doing it, then you're not gonna get much joy from trying to sort it out. On other servers though, complaining about abusive admins can generally do wonders, so long as you can find a website/email address (usually in the motd). Demos/screenshots always help when doing so, too.

Our survey says: Shut up and stop trying to be the admin's little echo...Come to think of it, that happens a lot here. It's REALLY damn annoying. If you have a problem with the damn posts, then just report it. Quit with the postcount+1 "OMG LOK THISS" crap.
Anyhow, as for having your own server, sure, it's your ball take it home if you don't like what other's are doing and only invite your friends. But guess what? You don't have the only freaking ball in the whole neighborhood, and you're friends might like to play with other people besides you.
--> There are alot of antagonistic Admins. Everything from encouraging exploits to cheating to banning for inappropriate reasones. My last 3 bans that I can remember are for telling the other team that an admin was letting our team cheat in some way (giving us RES, or inviciblity). I have learned to ignore it though, and to just skip certain servers. I have a list of servers in my head of those that I will not play on, either for unfair admin or just bad pings or whatever. For a while there were alot of anti American style foriegn servers that I stayed clear of too. That has kept me clear of alot of the BS that you guys seem to be getting.
--> Alot of Noob players too. Noob, for me, has come to a new meaning. New players dont bother me, it those players who are apparently new to commen sense or manners. Those are the real noobs, and the ones who are most offended by that name. There are also alot of CS people comming in, some cool, many who are not. In one game some CS noob begged us where we got our cheats, despite the fact that we were not cheating and that he had been in the game for like 10 seconds when he asked. Another CS noob on another server got into an arguement with me about Motion Tracking. Hes starts begging the other team about where they got their wallhack. So we tell him that that Marines have motion tracking. He accussed the entire Alien team of being noobs and that Motion tacking doesnt exist. He then spent the rest of his time on that server begging for the Wallhack's download address. I guess Im going out on a tangent. In conclusion, NS is seeing alot of new diverse players and we just have to get used to it.

rather ironic coming from a guy who posts a long irrelevent and apathetic peices of ignorant garbage, yes complaining can do wonders, though I do believe that has nothing to do with ns, which has been stated in the many many posts of exactly the same content before it.
Can I tell you a funny story, about a game that happened a couple of days ago?
It was on my favourite server, running AdminMod or something like that. It had a mod which allowed an admin to automatically kick someone from the CC without prompting for a vote. Anyway, one of the admin's came on our team and demanded a HMG (5 minutes into the game). We didn't want to waste res on HMG, so didn't give him one. He simply kicked our comm outta the chair, commed, dropped a HMG for himself, and left. Our prev-comm was now banned from comming; so I started comming. Our admin then demanded a jetpack. Of course, when where still expanding, don;t want to waste res on jetpack; so I was kicked as well. Eventually; the only person on our team allowed to comm was the admin.
Who then left.
Now, I like this server, and I *have* mentioned it to the server owner (apparently it happens a lot); but it does seem a shame. Once people play regularly on a server, they get to know the players and develop an affiliation with the said server. Admins like the previously discussed ones howerver only server to ruin an otherwise great game
[/End 10 cents rant]
Oh yeah, if you don't like a server, just don't play there.
And that why you should go to the <zD> server! IP in my sig, and its always a nice freindly atmosphere (when its not empty)
