4 Hives?

I just entered a server and joined aliens when i realized there were 4 hives!!!!
There was a extra hive in the marine base

    I havnt played on a server with it, but it seems it would be used when the marines relocate, or in the case of a multi-hive lockdown.

    Or cheats could have been set to "on" and you can use the spawnhive command to spawn a bucketload of hives to fill up your entire right half of the screen with hive icons.

    actually, give team_hive and spawnhive, but that is a plugin.

    It is a "plug-in" and a cheat, but i dont know how to tell the difference between them. Does the extra hive have different names in the plugin or sv_cheat?

    It's on both. On the plugin, it places another hive location at marine start, which means if marines relocate to a hive, aliens still can get all their upgrades/hives needed.

    When you add a hive using sv_cheats, it does not create spawn points. It uses spawn points from a nearby hive location. You can also use this to create hives in the ready room, but they won't actually spawn players.

    Hey, I've tested bugs with grepdashv ( on a 3.0, non plug-in server) and we spawned a hive in the exact same place with the exact same name.

    So, it could be both.

    Wrong, spawnhive just spawns a hive at a hive location. If you use it when you have already 3 hives, nothing happens.

    As Squinage said it is a plugin that is on modns.org

    its purpose is to create a fourth hive location whereever the marine start is. This is to help try and end really slow or deadlocked games where marines have relocated to another hive. Therefore, aliens can still get 3 hives.

    I can't say that's entirely true...

    Using that command when cheats are turned on gave us roughly 20 hives on ns_bast in NS 2.01, three of which appeared in marine start, which was rather funny because 6 marines died because of instant siege blasts (ff was on). Might want to think that statement over. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Can we settle for the fact that the "hive in a strange place" effect can be achieved in a plethora of ways, two of which are the "cheatmode" and the "plugin".

    I just tried this on my computer (about a minute ago). You must use give team_hive, then spawnhive, to get these hives (or have a gorge build them after using give team_hive).
