Keyboard Lag

It's not really lag but similiar to it. I am not lag spiking whatsoever when this happens. I don't know how to explain it except its a delay in my pressing the key. Say I crouch, then I try to turn and it will skip like I'm turning into a wall, but when I stop using the keyboard my mouse regains normal status and moves freely. Also say if I quickly tap TAB, it will stay up for like 2 seconds when I'm not even touching the keyboard. This happens with anything that involves half life. It gets fixed by defragging but it usually comes back after I restart which happens often since my NS crashes frequently. Any suggestions?

    ook

    kill all external proceses

    run adaware

virus scan (google housecall if you don't have one)

if none of this works try a few reinstalls

My guess is that there is something else capturing your keystrokes (very possibly a normal program that you have installed, however it still could be causing said slow down)

oh and run with net_graph 3 on so we know what your ping/choke/loss are (just to rule it out)

all programs aside from HL and your launcher ( infact if you launcher is something like ase that can be told to close when you join a game do so)

    So its time to kill:
    Your Browser
    All open windows
    Winamp
    GetRight
Your 10 Gig torrent of furry porn (yiffy)
    EVERYTHING
All of the tasks running in the task bar
if you are confident with it use the task manager to kill processes you know are not system critical (ctrl+alt+del --> Task Manager --> Processes tab)

as long as you don't kill essential things (like explorer or something <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

again, for the msot part just run adaware, a virus scan and kill those programs in your taskbar (thats the area next to your clock)

If you are not comfterable fiddling with the processes tab, just don't. The other things will remove most programs (asuming you havn't installed something truly hideous <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)

I had this problem when using HLamp, but I think it was more Winamp's fault with its plugin handling than the actual plugin itself. So, are you running Winamp?

No I'm not running WINamp. The only things running in my taskbar are

    - Norton Antivirus

    - Creative Volume Control

    - Wireless Network Connection

    - Ati Control Panel

    - Norton Password Protector

    - Norton Ghost 2003

    - Mouse

    - iTouch

Which one of these am I going to have to kill?

Do I have to use AdAware? I have Spybot and I scan my computer frequently with that.

DON'T KILL NORTON WITH THE TASK MANAGER. If you do you'll lose your auto-protection thing, and re-installing Norton won't bring it back. I made this mistake, but luckily for me I was going to reformat my PC soon anyway.

And dont run Adaware; Quite frankly it's crap. Keep using Spybot.

umm, killing the process might disable something, however a reboot should reset it all (unles norten sucks even more then I know)
but any way, as I said. Only kill those programs via task manager that you couldn't close other wise (and only those you know what they are).
Seeing how as you are not comfterable with ussing the task manager I suggest not doing it simply enugh (you can kill some processes that will mess you up, generaly a reboot SHOULD fix anything)

Norten however tends to be a system hog as well as doing alot of undesireable things.

Honestly I would suggest fully uninstalling it, especialy if you have another virus scaner (PCCillin is my personal fav)

As for spyware proc, it honestly dosn't matter. I have tried a few programs and they don't seem to have serious differances (each one catches a few that the others odn't) so long as you keep your deffenitions uptodate.

Again, all of these things are simply just to kill off as many different things as we can and then see if the keyboard lag still hapens, it aint that hard.
