Ns 3.0 And 1280x1024?

Well, I know you guys might not know this, but will 3.0 support 1280x1024? I have a 17 inch LCD with that as a native resolution, so I need to run game in that res or stuff gets kind of messed up. I play 2.0 on WON and it's fine at 1280x960... but running at the native resolution would be the best. Thanks for your help!

Tested and yes it works. You don't have to wory about that when 3.0 comes out.

1280x1024 should work fine. I wanna know if 1600x1200 will work cos when i play hl with that resolution i get a nice clear pic but can only see the top-left quarter of the screen which is really annoying having ur crosshair in the bottom left.

Nope 1600x1200 isn't supported. The max is 1280x1024.

Incorrect. 1600x1200 works just fine in WON HL and Steam HL (including NS 3.0) just fine.

Add '-w 1600 -h 1200' to your command line for some 1600x1200 goodness.

I understand there's also a possibility to use a widescreen resolution in Steam, starting at 1280*x (can't remember what the vertical resolution was). Anyone try that out yet? Can't do it myself since Valve left 1024*x widescreen resolution out, who knows why though. Maybe I should ask them... hmm.

...of course widescreen would bring a bunch of issues with it, namely having players with a higher fov than others. But that's another story.

    Added:

Well, I decided to look for widescreen info on the not-very-helpful steam forums (nnooo...), and discovered that only 1600*900 is available as of now. If you believe any of the folks who post there that is

Heh. I run 1600x1200x32 all the time. Heck, shows up as an option in WON-HL and Steam-HL. 1280x1024 should be there if it's a 'default' mode for your monitor.

17 inch monitors, don't go about 1024x768. It is best for that size. If you really MUST have rediculously huge resolutions, get a 21 inch monitor. 17 inches were pretty much designed with 1024 in mind.

Bear in mind that a 17" CRT has a viewable area of 15.8-16", whereas TFT panels have exactly 17",19" etc. Also TFT's have a set amount of pixels, in this case 1280x1024. And since the aspect ratio on the 17" is 5:4, any other resolution would be stretched if scaled fullscreen. Of course there's the option of leaving black borders, but it's really a waste of space.

while we're on the subject, anyone know how to run CS in 400x300 in steam?

I have a 17 inch LCD at 1400x1050, but sadly that the natural resolution and making it smaller sucks. Other than making the text small (and thus making my actually put on my glasses), it works just fine. Still, 1024x768 is what most games are designed around, and higher resolutions can make HUD's and whatnot get messed up. Pretty much just RTS and TBS games are significantly improved at even higher resolutions.
