Hazards?
Ok Im here talking to a friend of mine and he says that sending a Twenty Dollar Bill through the mail is illegal. Ok I know that the NS Crew doesnt encourage sending it cash but thats the only option for me. Even if I do wrap the money in a lot of paper, wont the postal workers still check it? Im mailing it in from Korea so would that seem like a high priority mail to check because of the current terrorist problems?

Here's what you do, but some cheap toy(like 3 dollars) that comes in a fair sized box. Put it in a bigger box. Hide the 20 dollar bill inside the toys box.

Just mail two ten dollar bills, or four fives or twenty ones. When I get the money I'm just going to send in two tens.

On the actual legal side of things I can't help you, its kinda sad when foreigner's know more about your countries laws than you do.

Wont the box be subject to a search because of all the terrorist stuff going on? What happens when they catch me mailing $20 cash?

Just gotta hide it real good Or just gift wrap the thing and make it look like a birthday gift to a 5 year old, put stickers on it...

A money order is a much better option. You can probably get them from your local Walmart, Alberson's etc. All you need to do is head for the customer service department. They will get you a money order for about 50-75 cents plus whatever you want the ammount to be. Then you can write down who exactly it's for only that person can cash the money order. It's much much safer than sending cash.

I realy doubt that sending cash is illegal (makes no sense, and best it is an urban legend)

but yes, a money order is a good idea.

Go to your post office and ask them what they suggest for sending $$ in the mail.

Also, the post office dosn't open palages for the most part.

There has to be a reasonable suspicion for them to open it (if you send a letter with a 20 in it no one will open it or check it).

Things that would make a pkg suspicious:
Sounds, odor, wite particles around it (that would be anthraz my fried... looks like yeast though.... my mom almost mailed my bro a big thing of yeast around that scare time ), or xrays.

Remember we value privacy stupidly high here, there for opening stuff is kinda a no no unless there is probable cause

oh, and correct me if I am wrong, but no one in Korea wants us dead atm... do they?

Whether or not its legal, its still a bad idea to send cash in the mail. After all, anybody who sees the letter might notice there's cash inside (especially if you're not sending it in a security envelope) and can just open the letter and make some cash.

Just buy a card (birthday or whatever, doesn't really matter) and put the money in that. It shoudn't be illegal and you get to give Flayra a nice thank you card at the same time.

Ok I got everything ready the card, the paper, the cash

Last thing I need is stamps. My mom has some but they seem used. Will the mail get sent back if they are used? Can I glue the used ones on?

Well I asked around in school and Mr. Toomey aka Hitler *cough* anyways, said that a 37 Cent stamp should cover for first class mail. I don't know I'm going to use a $1 Stamp, I think that would enough to get my mail from South Korea to Flayra's House right?

You could ask the friendly staff at the post office about this, they usually have stamps in odd denominations.

BTW, why the heck would you have postage as 37 cents, if you're mailing from South Korea? Shouldn't it be in Wons??? (840, to be exact)

QUOTE

Sending Money
In most (all?) countries it is illegal to send cash through the mail. But in saying that, a hell of a lot of people do it.
Benefits in sending cash through the mail:
you don't have to send your credit card details through email or in a letter
as most people deal in US$ cash in the trading community, if you have left over cash from a previous transaction it's easier to send this money then getting a money-order.
money-orders and international cheques cost money to get done
the buyer does not have to wait for cheques to clear
Negatives in sending cash through the mail:

if it's obvious that money is inside an envelope it gets tempting for the countless people who handle the letter from the sender to the intended receiver to "accidentally" misplace it.
it's illegal so if it goes missing the post office will say "well you shouldn't have sent it!"
If you do decided to send cash through the mail - always hide it well. At the very least, wrap it up inside a few sheets of paper. You do not want to be able to see the money just by looking at the envelope. I actually received one lot of cash through the mail which was hidden inside a floppy-disk! It was definitely hidden - but a bit excessive.
If you do want to send money, but are worried about it - send it via registered post. That way the receiver has to sign for it. Your money is a lot safer this way, but it's going to cost more money to send it registered than to send it normally.

FedEx is always a good way to send cash, its well sealed and a brown or solid white envelope that you cant see through.
  • VerthandiVerthandi Join Date: 2002-12-12 Member: 10687Members, NS1 Playtester
...and not to mention FedEx is expensive as hell, especially just for sending US$20.
