on a Radeon 9600
Howdy, RPG's cousing here, I have a slight problem with my computer here and perhaps one of you may help.
Ever since I got a new Epox mobo (8RDA+), I think I've been having weird graphical problems (among others, for example, at times my computer won't turn on and just emits a high pitched whine. faulty PS?). I'd add a screenshot, but it's very random and quick so a description will have to suffice - a lot of the polys seem to flash all the time. Flash as in flicker and extend out across the screen, it's like the models are developing spikes and losing them quickly, sometimes they even stay that way as I've seen happen in NFSU and recently in Beyond Good & Evil. I should mention I get these problems in all 3D games (with the exception of Priston Tale, I get other problems there which I suspect are bugs in the pos).
I have a Radeon 9600 with stock cooling (that means no fan), non-overclocked so a possibility might be overheating. Or it might somehow be the faulty power supply. Or a faulty mobo with it's high pitched whine. Or maybe it's the ram?
If any of you have any ideas what might cause this and ways to fix it, I'd most appreciate it.
Thanks, Ledenko
Comp specs:
Athlon 1700XP
Epox 8RDA+
Radeon 9600
512mb PC3200 DDR RAM
btw, the PS is 350W

Is it a whine you're hearing or system beeps? Does your mobo have a fan over the system bus or just a heat sink? My Shuttle board had a crappy fan over the bus. It would whine constantly so I just unplugged it. Turns out my temps dropped about 3 degrees
One option for cooling the video card is a fan that sits in the expansion port just below your card. Example:

I think the mobo has a heat sink over the system bus. Well, since there are NO fans on the mobo, I assume it's a heat sink.
About the whine - it's kinda weird. Sometimes, when I turn the computer off, it would start whining quite loudly, it's a sort of a constant beep, like you put a too high frew on a piezo. When I try to turn it back on, the whine changes in volume, but the computer doesn't turn on - the power led lights up, the mobo led display shows FF, which either means all OK or total failure, but none of the fans turn on or everything else for that matter.
But I will try to reseat the RAM and see if that helps, I do believe I have some diagnostic tools to test it so I'll give that a try too.
Maybe I should stop abusing rpg's acc and create one of my own?
Thanks again
