Go dig the hole yourself `and lie in it before you die <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Sure you can put a little bit aside for your funeral so as to less burden your friends/family - but then again, when you are dead, they wont mean anything to you anymore anyway. Because nothing will mean anything to you.

Kinda like planning to go on every single ride in a theme park when you are 90 - but by the time 90 roles around you dont want to/cant/will be dead anyway. Excercise in futility. And these loved ones that you are trying to ease the burden on - soon enough they too will die and cease to exist. Does it really make you feel better that during their similiarily doomed and pointless existance, that you managed to ease a very small part of it? <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
Fantastic, so after you're house is pulled down for being a health risk due to the putrefying corpse inside, am I supposed to pay for your disposal? We get lumbered with the $3000 dollar cost?

Blow futility, I'm not dealing with your mess. Get it sorted.

I meant the talk of death hurts no one. Talking about death will never hurt anyone, so theres no point in telling us not to talk about it since telling us not to gives us the full authority to talk about it (Prohibition, Parents being all tight lipped about sex etc).

Death itself is infact a whole nother thread. I'm friends with a guy that communes with death on regular intervals and the one thing that the reaper is sick of is when people look at him they go "Uh, god?" or "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!". Saying either of those is a right ticket to hades.

He dosent say which is more used though...

    Soylent Green... Its... PEOPLE!

I like the idea of being burried under a tree, and maybe having my info carved nicely into the tree trunk. Would be alot better then a boring headstone. Unless its one of those huge monmument sized headstones. In that case, I would want it to be carved like a tree.

Did I say he communed with Satan?

    Grim Reaper != Satan

He's more like the middleman. Neither good, nor evil. Neither warm, nor cold. He's the police officer that just gave you a parking ticket for parking across four disables spaces, he's the bolt of lighting that blew out your computer. He's not malignant, just doing what he does cos if he dosent theres gonna be a shitstorm.

No, he's not a satanist. He just likes... Death... I guess...

    Hard to explain really...

Enough OT stuff, this thread is getting much too cluttered...

If I had the money, I'd want to be sent into space - of couse I'd probably just pop when the 'casket' gets hit by a micrometeor or something. I think that you should be able to be disposed of in any way you want and can pay for as long as it does not pose a health risk to the living.

Sure, I fear death - but I know, unlike many others in America, that it is just another step on the path. Where this path leads, no 'living' human knows, but I have a feeling it leads to the Creator - whoever or whatever it is - and as I said the next step. For a while I almost believed theory that an alien race may have created the human race by sending a 'gene bomb' to modify the resident primates into what we are today. Basically, these aliens set us up to become complete copies of them - but not yet, we still have many traits in common with the monkeys. Maybe these aliens evolved so much, with technology so great that they have gained access to the Astral Plane.

    Well, there it goes.

[edit] Or maybe there's nothing there and all this stuff about God and the afterlife is wishful thinking on the part of humans who want a solid explanation for their cosmic coincidence. [/edit]

The thing that scares me the most is not able to think, can't do anything. Toatly shut down, your existance is no more, I just don't think it's possible that all your memories and other crap in your brain just disapeers in less then a second..

Paying to die, well, after all of the funeral, burial costs, there is just one more thing, if by chance your in america
Its called the estate tax, a.k.a. the Death Tax, it was brought about in the colonial times to stop wealthy landowners from being to powerful. Hey!, Wait! families cant take over the country anymore than a hobo can. The government depending on the value of everything you owns takes on average 10 to 50% of it, the 50% only applies to huge amounts, 20 mil and upwards, Taxes, Paying to die, it all makes me sick...

(((sorry for crappy spelling/grammar im on medicine right now, cant think straight)))

my biggest concern about death is the non-existance that is implied, no thinking, no memories, all of what you were, come to nothing. freaky stuff. but it should be talked about, its human to think about this. its human to fear it. its human to make up excuses and dreams about what will happen when we stop ticking. what i'd like to imagine is that whatever we dreamed up for ourselves during life, is the 'reality' for us in death. its a nice thought.

i like the tree idea, the thought that something (anything) of me living forever in the tree, nurturing it, helping the earth ( a wee bit ) and a living memory of my life,
