What's the acceptable filesize for avatars?

You never said...
I was fiddling around with animated gifs and made an interesting avatar (not the one I'm currently using)... it's just that even when I compressed it was about 90k (bigger than our signatures are allowed to be).

Just how big a file are our avatars allowed to be? Can we have 100k avatars?

P.S.-> If this has been discussed before could someone direct me to the relevant thread?

*shrug* -Personally-, I have no qualms about filesize... just actual dimensions.

    The reason is that:

    A) Avatars and other pictures load last on these boards, which mean they don't slow down your accessing them any, unless you're loading multiple pages at once.

    B) If you are loading multiple pages at once, you've got bandwidth to load pictures.

    C) If you really don't want to be loading avatars or sig pictures, you can disable them in your options.

So, -personally- I have no problems with the actual size of the file.

But that's just me. Other moderators may feel differently. But so far we haven't gotten any complaints about my avatar, so I doubt anyone cares. Which means that we haven't made any rules about it.

No larger than the sig size, 22K, as a general rule. Thats just me.

Good gods, I just realised how bloody huge Moles is. I would like to register a complaint now.

Isn't it cached onto a computer once it loads the first time?

Depends on how you have your computer set up, but usually, yes.

I used to have it set up so I had no cache, whatsoever, but I changed that a bit, just 'cause I was bored.

Hmm... I'd like to propose a rule that all avatars must be smaller in filesize than mine. I think that should really do the trick.

Do you -really- want to be known as 'Hive Queen' again?
