NS is going to come out for retail eventually. Of course, Half-life isn't free, but you need it to play NS. NS is free if you have Half-life.

Steam IS NOT GOING TO EVER BE PAY TO PLAY! I wish people would stop whining about it. THe only time you're ever going to pay on steam is if you subscribe to steam (9.95 USD per month, every game available to you with extra content) or you actually buy a game over steam (one-time payment of the game's price). If you have a valid CD key from a game that you bought under WON but now is on steam, then the mods are free unless they have an asking price.

A retail game - Didn't even say it would be NS. A retail game, ya know like the kind you buy in a store, but not like counter-strike, it'd be a whole new game.

If you can and are willing you will be able to download it for free from the site

If you can not (for some reason) or don't want to download it, you can go buy it in a store when it goes retail.

It is just an option for those who do not want to wait for an hour or so to download it.
