Res Node Hiding

In regular NS can you still hide behind a res node as a skulk? If not, why was this removed. It was fun to make the marines come around the back to get you to stop eating their res.

    Its not like you can remove "hiding behind a res node"

    Ok, a marine sees a skulk eating a res node, the skulk is on the other side of the node (a marine node not an alien one). The marine starts shooting at the alien, and the res node blocks all the shots. While he is reloading the skulk zips out and chomps him.

    Since 3.0 came out, I can't seem to hide behind the marines res nodes. The marines' bullets hit me even though the res node is between me and the marine.

    make sense?

    I think he means the res node blocks all of the buttets, Even when you try to shoot though the legs.

    not realy, in 2.01 you culd eaily hide behind an marine rt as a skulk.
    But in 3.0 beta1 this has been ****ed up or something peaple just unload a lmg clip and u get down to 10 hp.... a lucky pistol and you are done <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    He is talking about when you are killing a marine rt. It used to be that the entire thing blocked bullets from hitting you. Now, if you can see an alien through the rt (in the gaps between the legs), then you can shoot them there. This was part of the hitbox fixes, the same stuff that lets you shoot between a marine's legs and be able to hit all of the onos and fade. Basically, the rt hitbox was changed.

    So, for a clear answer, you can use it as a decent shield to block most of your body, but you can still be hit if they can see you.

    I dont think the node ever blocked 100% of the bullets, but the skulk's hitbox has been changed, so that could be where you're having problems.

    Personally I find this the 2nd most annoying thing in the world (next to spore spam from a vent outside marine spawn), especially with FF on, as it means shooting at the skulk results in even more damage to the RT. It wouldn't be so bad if most rts wern't in corners <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Now you have to hide so the marine cant see any part of your body, also, the parts that you can look through (on the res tower model) do not block the bullets any more. Hide behind the big cylinder in the middle of the res tower that connects the tower with the node.

    What are you talking about? You can only build resource towers on spots where there is a resource node, which has to be built into the map. Unless you were playing on a strange nonstandard map, there is no way you could have built a res tower in a vent. Maybe you built offense chambers or defense chambers, but you certainly didn't build resource towers.

    it was well possible to shoot aliens behind an rt in 2.01, although i only really figured it out with the pistol. there was a small, tight "window" that let bullets pass into the skulks.

    Structure collision was completely reworked in 3.0, which also encompasses their hitboxes. You can hide behind a res node as a skulk but no longer is there an invisible box that helps block shots; if they can shoot you through the legs of the node, they can hurt you.

    sv_cheats 1 does not let you do that, at least not as of 2.0.

    Yeah, hiding behind rt's takes a bit more skill now, but I didn't have huge problems hitting skulks there in 2.01, but it could take more than one marine sometimes to get him.

    But don't forget about grenades Tasty, hiding behind buildings isn't quite the same with those around. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    One thing I usually have luck with is clinging to the side of the rt by jumping and tapping crouch until I'm in a cozy spot that's above the legs and behind the large part of the structure, but I admit that I don't know what position the skulk's model gets in when I do this, and I haven't had many chances to try it to see how well it protects me.

    yes the hitboxes have been made more accurate because in 1.0x you couldn't shoot skulk heads or claws but now that along with more accurate RT hitboxes has made it more deadly <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> hide behind the bulk of the RT if you can but remember they can shoot you if they see any part of you now
