<div class="IPBDescription">Map Recovery</div> Heres a neat thing that happened to me.

I was working busily on a map, I saved it and quit hammer to get rid of some texture files I wasnt using. Apparently, hammer stuffed the save or something, I've got 2 files without extensions. Looking inside these files, I see the parameters of some entities and solids including the textures used on them.

I dont know whats happened exactly but if anyone can offer me a hand in recovering my map it would be greatly appreciated, it would save about 3 hours of work.

Heres an excerpt of what I'm seeing inside the file.

The fragment you posted looks like a normal .map file; it may be possible to open it up in Hammer if you add the .map extension manually. If the other file starts with "????RMF" then it's probably the .rmf without the extension.

Opening as a .map file simply shows a completely void map (nothing in it at all), I've tried that already. I've also tried adding .rmf extension as well with no results...

Odd... if you're comfortable sending me a copy of the files, I'll see what I can get out of them. Email me at pr.searle@ntlworld.com if you're interested.

Hammer 3.5 Beta has been botching my RMFs/MAPs for some time now. It usually says either: "99999999999 solids were not loaded due to errors in the file" for maps and: "Oops! Serialize Ver. 2.2 Encountered file type Ver. 0.0 Closing..." for RMFs.

Your best bet is to save often and under different names.

He managed to email me the solution. Apparently hammer was loading too many unnecessary wads at the one time.

Notice my excerpt, if you delete all but the most pertinent wad strings you should be able to load the map from a .map format.

pr.searle will be credited for single handedly saving the entire map from oblivion <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> Thanks a bunch...
