Would This Be Considered A Map Exploit?

Not an exploit. Ignore them and move on. Let a skulk or lerk take care of them.

One more reason why you need people to diversify in thier builds. Maby those pillars should be dropped slightly so a ducked onos can get in thier if ABSOLUTELY nessicary.

They are just being very very smart.

I very rarly go fade, and even more rare onos. Also I could not walk by them since there was 4, with level 2 weapons (atleast) Shotguns.

i think that should stay on co_angst i have a hard time getting onos since their devour range seems soo far. -.-

onos devour range has been nerfed somewhat for 3.0

[Admin nuke this if it is considered a spoiler or something] If you have trouble with onos eating you all the time, simply duck as they charge toward you. Because the onos' POV is like 10 feet high, and devour must hit in the center of the screen (where the crosshairs would be for a gun) you ducking forces the onos to look down nearly vertically to eat you because your hitboxes get so far down below his POV. The looking down technieque is really difficuly to master while charging full speed, so by ducking you effectively trade off your vulnerability to onos, for increased vunerability to skulks (probably a preferable trade when an onos is quickly bearing down on you)

    Doesnt everyone know that allready? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I love onos in combat though, I usually just rush out at start, get lvl 3-4 worth of assist xp, bite off a few heads and onos at lvl6. Devour is just too good imho, you eat HA, hide 6 secs, eat another, and watch your xp rise fast!

Another tip for onos people, dont get stomp/charge, its not worth the points, Id much rather get another upgrade and stomp only lasts 1 sec.. my favourite onos would be: Regen, Cara, Focus and Celerity, eat and run <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->, and bash while you run

Hmm, because the marine is smart enough to hide makes it an exploit?
    Sheesh.

I find stomp is still worth it b/c it freezes up the other team for your lower eves, expecially with adren, but I agree with you, charge is all but useless in combat since the maps are so small anyways, and there is almost always backup behind every corner. I ussually sacrafice cara for adren since it's only 150 armor, and it causes regen to take longer healing you either way.

on an unrelated note, anyone else knowtice that an onos near a hive is nearly invincible now in 3.0?

I assure all mappers are extremely aware of how big the player models are, and so there's really no way that this little safety spot from onos is unintentional.
  • SwiftspearSwiftspear Custim tital Join Date: 2003-10-29 Member: 22097Members
It would still be safe if the onos had to jump/duck to get in there, it just wouldn't be cheaply unaccessable. Like it was said before however, hopefully your skulks and fades should be able to take out such an encampment.

The marine doesn't have to sit in there. If an onos appears just run arround that thing while shooting at the onos. Another thing in this level is the little hole under the hive, sooo unfair.....

Well they aren't explointing anything are they? If the maker wouldn't want this he wouldn't have made it.

How is it any different to sitting in a vent shooting an onos?

Perhaps because it is a strategic chokepoint which multiple marines can use at a time.

Just devour him. It should reach.

[sarcasm] <- Just to be sure to not get misunderstood
This is soo unfair!!! Pleas remove those pillars cause i cant stand them anymore. Every game the marines just camp inside them and own the aliens cause pillarcamping is soo overpowered allowing them to XP **** till lvl 10 and then jp rush the hive and i cant devour them in there. They always own us poor aliens this way.
    [/sarcasm]
Oh wait, they dont. I see a marine in there maybe 1 out of 10 games and usually its a newbie cause the first time a skulk owns you cause you cant move in there you will never enter that deathtrap again. And if those pillars are such a huge problem for you then just take the other way to the marine base. Oh wait theres an elevator just outside the marine spawn so:
[sarcasm] <- Just to be sure to not get misunderstood
Devs fix the elevators!!! The marines always camp up there and i can´t devour them from below with my onos !1!one!111! This is sooooo unfair!! Marines always win because i cant eat the evil elevatorcampers of doooom
    [/sarcasm]

Why not just make the map totally empty and flat with a hive at one end and a CC at the other. Some people... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The hive now heals a player 6% of their total health/tick. This is 4.2hp for a skulk, 9 for a gorge, 7.5 for a lerk, 18 for a fade, and 42 for an onos. It is great for onos but really bad for lower lifeforms.

You want these brackets [] instead of these <>.

Sitting in the middle of that thing protects a marine from onos, but makes him extremely vulnerable to the other life forms. It is a fair trade off, I would hate to see that go.

If you remove it, then remove all vents and ledges too.
