<div class="IPBDescription">advices?</div> Hiya! First time here, rather off topic pictures but meh! So anyways, a friend of mine drew this:
<img src='http://www33.brinkster.com/nctrn/val.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
which I redid to this:

i reckon a bit more practise with tools like dodge and burn, and more multiple varies of colours could improve the pic <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> but its good none the less <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> and welcome to ns

PS. If you're wondering what the characters are saying, the left one says "Look, a dead seagull" and the right one goes "WHERE?!" with her camera ^_^ The drawer's a friend of mine, if I get one done, I just do the rest of her similar pictures if I have the time... 'tis fun I admit it! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
well practice your levels and pressure of dodge and burn, lower the strength of dodge and burn down to a more desirable rate like 13..
i find 13 to be the best level with midtones and highlights with burn tool
shadows is too strong with the burn tool so is best set at 3-6 i found
13 and up for dodge with midtones and highlights, it depends on the level of brightness you want to acheive
if you want to highlight hair i find 1 pixel strokes with dodge on both midtones and highlight levels set at 30-40 are best to acheive a good effect.
shadow for the dodge tool is slightly weaker but good to make something loook shiny, because it tends to whiten more than lighten the colour. more like a sheen, so if ya want a soft sheen i found 10-30 , a stronger sheen 40 and up. but it can get pretty strong.
usually the best tools used for dodge and burn are the 1pixel - 19 pixel soft brushes, not the hard ones because they seem to look more like theyre cutting, you should also try to blend the shading,
hard to explain but like set the burn on midtone with 13 level of strength and get the soft 19 pixel brush and then stroke down where you want shaded once, then move from the edge from the shading closest to the inside of ya pic, more or less going to the edge of your pic and then repeat shading, giving it a more rounded effect..
i dont tend to give so much advice <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> but i guess im just bored lol
im no expert or nuffin ,, just trying to give all the advice i know , heh..
