<div class="IPBDescription">Please help!</div> First off,
AMD Athlon 1.4 Ghz CPU, 512 DDRAM, ADSL Broadband internet, 160GB HDD, USB Optical Mouse, Windows XP Home, SoundBlaster Live Value, Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB.
Running NS 3.0b2 and Steam through Counter-Strike 1.5 retail.
Running NVidia's newest digitally signed (by microsoft) display drivers, 5.2.1.6.
Running desktop resolution of 1280 x 960. Refresh rate at 60 hz. Color depth of 32bit. V-Sync is 'on by default.'
I am running NS with matching display settings.
I am not using the EAX feature, or the other one below it.
The Problem (1 of 2):
Upon loading into a game, my display freezes up, and everything appears to be scrambled. Text is unreadable. looks like the screen is cut up into thin slices. If left for 10 seconds the monitor will stop responding and go black. During this time, the mouse only sometimes responds. Any sound playing at that instant will repeat itself constantly, and then speed up untl the system reboots.
After a reboot the display is perfectly fine.
What I have tried:
- Re-installing Counter-Strike and NS.
- Updating to newest drivers on NVIDIAs website.
- Rolling Back to older versions of NVIDIAs drivers.
- Reformatting from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home.
- Disabling all USB ports.
- Running CS in compatibility mode.
- Switching to a different monitor.
- Reducing the gamma in-game.
- Disconnecting any extra devices
- Completely reducing display quality. Lowest resolution, lowest refresh rate, lowest color depth.
- Updating soundcard drivers and network card drivers.
- Disabling V-Sync
- Lowering all hardware acceleration for the graphics card.
Everything to no effect.
I have played NS since just before 2.0 with no problems, and its really the only game I play (or use to). So its not the monitor or the program or the OS, seeing as i've re-installed and replaced them all. I havent had any problems with my graphics card until now, in fact, I love my Geforce 2. Now, im no expert, but seeing as the system locks up, and the sound loops over and over when the display goes haywire, i am reluctant to think it is the graphics card causing the problem.

Comments
I just installed the latest chipset drivers from my mainboards website.
And also installed the latest DivX codec (Why? I dont know).
And still no go.
Try playing a few different games and see if you get the same results.
If you feel comfortable in doing so I suggest you remove your case cover and make sure your cards and memory are seated properly. Taking them out and putting them back in with firm pressure would be the way to go.

I have some good news (for me, that is)! After my last failure I took it a step further, and flashed my bios, and wow, NS now runs beautifully, I havent even seen the full sexiness of this new version until now. I am 99 percent sure that my problem is solved! Please dont be shy if you have seen this type of problem before and think you know the solution, the problem may keep back up on me(or others)! Ahh!
Is it simply my gfx card has had it?
