New to ns....
Please, please, tell me something. To play NS, would you need knowledge on maps, and other things? Cause I was just introduced to it recently, and I got some things I didn't need. (Like some flaming.)
Please, I don't need any of that. Please, just someone tell me this.

Don't forget to read the tooltips and mannual. If all else fails ask a [guide].
Make no mistake NS is complex, however between all these methods no-one should struggle to play.

Oh, you posted when I was typing this ChromeAngel. Thanks.
www.readyroom.org and www.natural-selection.org have good ones
also read all of the "Read before posting topics" and you will get a good idea
allso read the "Tales From the front line"
as for the 100+posts, he aparently hung out only in art and off topic (we have had this discussion)
again, monkey, don't just come in and expect every one to tell you every thing, go read what I said and then come back with Qs about what you don't get

That's pretty vague. Sure knowing everything in a map gives the player an advantage but not knowing that won't stop you from playing NS. Are you asking, if you need to know your way around a map in order to play because the commander is giving commands? Doesn't a arrow or something pop up on your HUD whenever the commander gives you an order?
But no, you don't need to know the maps to play, at least at first.
You wont die any more than normal, thats down to your own skills, you just wont be of any use.
In NS the maps are bigger but youll have a commander and a map in you HUD to help you so... Id say as long as your a team player the commander wont abandon you so you will survive but... you wont be able to help as quickly, your team is more likely to lose.
Besides, why would you play without knowing the map? Just jump on a lan for a minute or two and youll at least memorise the basic layout. Oh and since you wont be wandering around on your own (i hope not anway) your team mates will be able to help you. Just follow their lead and learn where they take you.
It is easier to start NS as a marine, because the marine has a small minimap on his HUD to help him find his way around. He also has a commander who *always* has an overview of the map, and therefore can follow waypoints without having to know exactly where he's going.
As an alien, it's both easier and harder. It's harder because you have to be able to navigate between all 3 hives and the marine base, without anyone giving you directions. There are also *tons* of vents which are absolutely indispensible to the advanced player for quick navigation and ambushes.
However, it's easier as well. Any alien in trouble is highlighted in your hive sight; look at the pink sprite, and you will see the name and location of whatever is under attack. Just keep moving in that direction, and you'll get there eventually. (:
Now, all I need is Half-Life.
I think the manual is one of the last things that needs to be finished (last I heard)
