Grr... The Panthers Would Have Won If....

If, on their last offensive before that beautiful touchdown, they ran the clock down before scoring. Why would they time out and score so quickly?! They basically gave the Patriots the perfect amount of time to return the ball score again after. *sigh* I'm not even talking about running it down to the second, all they needed to do was hold it for another 10-15 seconds, which was what the Patriot's needed to come back with a field goal.

Not that I'm a diehard Panther's fan, but it just made me sick.

I'm sure plenty of people wish to discuss this, as it was a major sporting event, but I don't think it's really discussion material. Maybe a shift to off-topic would be best.

Pish posh. Sports are a perfectly acceptable topic in Discussion, especially if you're looking to avoid the usual OT responses to such topics:

Poster1: Dang, why did the the Phillies head coach leave McNabb in so long after he got his ribs bruised? He coughed up the ball 3 more times and cost the Eagles the NFC Championship game!
Poster2: Are the Eagles an American football team?
    Poster1: Why yes!
Poster2: OMG AMERICAN FOOTBALL SUCKS I LURVE FIFA AND WE'RE THE ONLY TRUE FOOTBALL STOP CALLING IT FOOTBALL GO MANCHESTER UNITED!!!

I think that a bigger factor was the Panthers el-crappo kicker that started off that final drive by booting the ball out of bounds and setting the Pats up on their own 40. If they had been forced to drive from their own 20 or so, they never would have been able to get into field goal range and the game would have at least gone into sudden death overtime. That bumbling dried up all the Carolina momentum and gave the ball to perhaps the greatest kicker in history (Vinateri) and doomed the Panthers right then.

As a Cubs and Bears fan, you can just say what we always do: There's always next year...

I blame it on Janet Jackson, the kicker was still in shock.

No seriously. You cannot blame the lose squarely on the kicker though. Where was carolina's defense, outside of one interception they got nothing. The patriots could have easily made it to field goal range from the 20. You never know, they could have got better yardage of the return.

I a grimmer note, anyone notice the growing trend of rioting after your sport team wins?

True true, you can't blame it on one schmo. Otherwise I could say that this guy should be banned from ever attending a sporting event ever again...

    <img src='http://images.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/_photos/2003-10-15-fan-inside.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

As for the rioting - that's definitely something to keep an eye on. I have a feeling that it will simply be cracked down on and will go away after awhile. We don;t want to become another Europe or Australia, with our own version of soccer hooligans.

Fair call on Europe but I'm a bit mystified about the Australia comment. I havn't even heard of a sporting riot in years (or in fact, ever. Granted I don't watch much sports but that sort of thing would grab my attention), and most games I attend or watch have fans who can get fired up at times but they don't riot or get violent.

Though my point that we don't have riots remains valid. A question: what kind of alcohol can be served in US stadiums? Over here it's light beer only.

The riots are not in US stadiums. They are in (poorer) areas of cities where sports fans live.

My favorite 'riot' was when that black guy got killed in Detroit after running from police on his motorcycle, then the black's rioted and protested... by burned down their own neighborhoods.

Would have also been nice if the Panthers hadn't botched their final kickoff and gave the Patriots excellent field position.

As much as I wanted Carolina to win, the Patriots did play better football. The Panthers only got a few lucky breaks in the beginning due to missed field goals by the Patriots (BTW Vinatieri did missed those on purpose, he just wanted the winning field goal) and well placed punts by the Panthers. The numbers were obviously in favor of New England.

All in all it was a very entertaining superbowl, minus the first half. Dissapointing, but exciting. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

1st of all, I hate you for not being a Brocos fan. 2nd, I stay away from Boulder after games esp CU (#1 party school in the country, I wanna go there) CSU.

    And on topic now...

I do agree with Monse, if the kicker would not have kicked the ball out at the 40, the game probably would have gone into OT and the panthers would have had a chance to win.

I do have to say that the panthers use an aimbot, I swear to god their QB is insane with the long balls

Yea, and the Patriots would have won in overtime anyways =)

Also, if Vin had just made one of his first two kicks they would have won to.
  • HawkeyeHawkeye Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1855Members
Patriots would have won if Janet Jackson ran onto the field and flashed the kicker at the last second. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
