Obviously the most important thing in a Combat game is the comm chair, but many marine teams seem to forget all about it and run off, leaving the base undefended.
Two or three skulks with focus-bite can take down the CC extremely quickly.
Never leave the base unguarded. You should always have at least one guy with a welder in the base at all time. I found that a good combination is welder, mines, resupply and grenade launcher. You can keep the CC/armoury repaired, drop a mine each time you spawn, and grenade-spam the entrances. Playing like that last night I got a huge number of kills (60-70) and barely left the base at all. This frees up the rest of the team to concentrate on attacking TEH EVIL HIEV!

Ppl should all get welder, or most of them, switch guard duties and listen to each other.
The only time I hav a gg in combat as rine is when my oldbie friends are online.
and yes, intime focus is slower.
About one third to one half the marines should get welders, and they should remember to use them not just on the cc, but also on each other (including la marines). Once you run out of armor points you are paper, and you don't want that now, do you?
In beta 2, it's somewhat useless to have base defenders. Just keep attacking, and those who die will spawn back faster than they could walk to the cc. A few seconds of welding, and boom, very little net effect. I think it sucks, but it's true.
