Old threads

I'm a little confused on something here.  I've seen 2 statements that just seem contradicting to me.
Some one posts a thread about something that apparently already exists- yet maybe they're new and weren't around for it or it's really old and far away.  People complain that there's ALREADY a thread on it.

And yet, if we find the thread, that's not on page 1.. and post in it- we get in trouble for ressurecting a "dead" thread.  So...??  What we're not aloud to talk about it anymore?

=edit= it's supposed to be "Old" not "Od"

    ok, here is the deal:

some topics have been discused into the ground, a few times over

thus if you bring up the topic ppl will tell you that it has been discused and if you want to know what the final desision type thing was, go read it

there are also certain topics that are DEAD and specificly there not to be posted on (read the Read before posting topics in each Forum and you will see what I am talking about)

again basicaly the reason why ppl get sorta snapish is that they have had to deal with said thing many many times (it is NOT just 'when will this be out' other topics have been driven into the ground also like AvA and MvM modes, those are in one of the read before posting threads, I believe)

again if some one snaps at you for stuff like thatr it isn't realy aimed at you (generaly) normaly it is aimed at every one who has made those posts

BTW this holds true for every forum there is, certain things are just old and dead and ppl want to leave em that way

bringing up old posts is fine if you have something intelligent to say. Its when somebody brings up a post from 2 months ago just to say ";D" that people get a little peeved.

/me goes to resurrect 50 posts only to reply with ';D'.

All righty, I can understand all of that.  Thanks.  It's not that I have been yelled at personally or anything, but I have seen it enough that it just seemed like any thread beyond the first page was old and dead.

beyond the first page on Ideas forum generaly is (there are not that many new threads there, thus anything past about 1/2 way down the page is rather old and been discused to death lol)

People are overzealous about yelling at people for resurrecting "dead" threads.  Easiest way to do it - check the date of the last reply.  If it was more than a week ago, don't post unless you really feel you have something worthwhile to add - not just "yes, I agree, because"... more like "One thing you all aren't considering is..."

I've gotten annoyed at a few people recently for the plethora of copycat threads - starting a new thread with the exact same topic of discussion of a thread that is not even a day old.

The thing is, people post threads asking questions that have already been answered in old threads or discussed recently, all they would have to do is search and they'd find their answers.

The second point is, bringing up discussion that are long since over is pointless and annoying.

It's not contradicting at all, it's 2 different, unrelated points.

If you have something legitimate to add to a discussion in a "dead" post, but don't want to resurrect it, you can always just refer to the dead topic and throw in a link.  That way you can make an argument related to the topic without really gravedigging.

Yes yes I see this.  In truth, the question was written during a moment of frustration and not wholey thought out.  Sorry to be a bother.

*dances* On a happy note, good things are coming!

Not a bother at all.  76 posts late, welcome to the forums.  (:

The biggest problem with resurrecting old, dead posts is that the fresh ones don't get as much attention as they could have.

Try not to post in dead threads unless it's absolutly needed.
