    That is insane.

Im a bit sus about the holding ball on the tip though....

Holy cow! Unbelievable. Either that's a really sticky stick or he's got l33t skillz.

Wow, how long did it take him? That's ridiculous.

Lo.l, that was at least partly faked. The ball doesn't speed up as it falls and sometimes it has slightly different coloured lighting than the background. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Um, 9.8m/second/second. The ball is about half a meter off the ground. You're not going to see any noticable change in speed from gravitational acceleration...

OK, bad phrasing. I meant to say that when the guy throws the ball into the air at one point it just goes up and down without really changing speed, even when it was changing direction (you would expect *some* gradual shift instead of a near instant switch from up to down).

I don't see how he pulls the ball back. Street Hockey Sticks have curves on the end right?

He's just mannipulating the blade like a hand, curving it around it and moving it around.

if that is video editing it is pretty friggin good. Not only could I not find a instance where the ball was incorrectly layered on the stick, but the shade of the ball actually gets darker when it goes into the more shadowy area's of the room. That guy has shown up anything I have ever seen, weather it be hockey skills or video editing skills.
  • homerxhomerx Join Date: 2003-04-01 Member: 15094Members
He's good, I'll give him that.

But some of those *tricks* <i>must</i> have been edited.
  • taboofirestaboofires Join Date: 2002-11-24 Member: 9853Members
    Fakedy fake fake. Amateur even.

His little "routine" involves moving the stick in one direction, stopping suddenly, and going in reverse. The ball would fly off. Sometimes even working against gravity. Glue.
  • AgentOrangeAgentOrange Join Date: 2002-11-18 Member: 9244Members
Then care to explain how he drops the ball after cradleing it for a while, throws it or bounces it around on his stick?

First thing a dork says when he sees something he can't do is that it's fake. You know there are people out there with talents beyond overclocking a video card right?
  • UltimaGeckoUltimaGecko hates endnotes Join Date: 2003-05-14 Member: 16320Members
I'll go with him bouncing it on the stick as real, but theres cuts (jerks in the movie) before and after he's swinging the ball around on the end of the stick.

I'd assume the beginning is real, middle is glued/stickied and the end is real.

    holly...... whatever....... im speechless ^^

if it is edited... he must be good to do it
if it is not edited.... he must be even better to do THAT <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Ok, the video IS eddited.

The problem being is that I am not sure at exactly what positions. and how much is real skill and how much is editing.

    1) The guy does have ALOT real skill.
    2) There are certain parts mid rutine where there are some obvious edits (watch shadows)
    3) Certain tricks (namely the one where he tosses it off scrn) don't seem exactly genuine (For that one I amguessing some one simply tosses in a second ball)
    4) My assumption is that most of the dits are infact only there to make the routines fit to the music better.

O,h and for those 'gravity defying' sections:
    Thats compleatly possible

what alot of you are missing is that alot of the tricks come from quick reversals of the stick (thus killing momentum as well as allowing him to nearly instantly revers direction)

Think about centrifigul force (take a bucket of watter and spin it around, none will fall). Now basicaly make tohse changes happen MUCH faster.
  • NikonNikon Join Date: 2003-09-29 Member: 21313Members, Constellation
a key to alot of the tricks is how curves his stick is, that is a plastic hockey stick that has been drastically bent farther than a regulation wooden hockey stick, giving him an advantage. also, that is more than likely an extremely light ball.

    nice ,,

and ppls did you at all think that him tossing the ball of the screen and it coming back to him was him tossing it into a wall and it bouncing back at him?? or was it too obviouse to think of?? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

I figgure it is probably some one tossinghim another ball (still cool none the less)

Saying this is fake, is like saying <a href='http://www.speedcubing.com/chris/videos/cubing4.mpeg' target='_blank'>Solving a Rubix Cube in 17.88 Seconds</a> is fake. Or the Star Wars kid is fake.

Well, his stick's end is super curved, but other than that, he super skilled at this.

Reminds me a good bhopper who uses a +3jumps script. "OMG, without the script he would TOTALLY SUCK."

Other than that, nice job kid.

or hes for real but he just goofed a bunch b/c its hard to do, so he just spliced together a bunch of his good outtakes for the video.
  • TrojanTrojan Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 4611Members
It's real. The cuts are too obvious for it to be 'video editing', and at other times its too perfect for it not to be.

People have skills you wouldnt even want to imagine, I've got some movies of a guy who's been using a yoyo for a year, and is insane. Some break dancing and martial arts movies, people have skills. Just because you cant, or you think you cant, doesnt mean someone else cant.

That's Joe Eigo's movies, he's a damn good martial artist, and is a stunt person/ backup person for a lot of movies these days. I suggest you get, if you can find them, JoeEigo-April1-02.asx and JoeEigo-Sept-02.asx .

Its real. I watched it once, convinced that the ball was stickied to the stick, but the saw a bit where the ball moves when the stick doesn't. It is either a really good skills or a really REALlY good fake, and I am inclined to go with the skill.

Er, Liku... that was 47 seconds. Not 17. Though the one-handed solve was pretty impressive. :b

And I've gone over it... he DID cut together 'good takes', but beyond that I'm pretty convinced that he'd actually done that. There were no artifacting changes (which COULD mean it was edited before compression, but feh), I didn't see any shadowing incongruities (which could be Debevec RNL, or just a good lighting setup to keep shadows minimized).

In fact, I'm inclined to believe that it was all real, albeit cut-together from multiple takes. If you watch him (DAMN he's quick) the paddle always stays behind the ball, except in a situation where he could have given it a quick 'scoop' to reverse the fall. Definitely a very light ball though, and not a regulation stick.

I'd like to see the yo-yo stuff as well. I used to be pretty big on it. Kept one or two in my pockets at all times... still love my Yomega Fireball, Saber Raider, and Saber Wing Fireball. Sadly, I haven't kept them maintained and will have to replace the bearings and transaxles if I want 'em back up to snuff. Well, after I find them again. All I've got handy is a crappy Duncan Neo. After free-floating bearings, never could get used to a fixed-axle again for hang duration.

It's not that hard to glue/tape/fasten a ball to a stick.
