    If you use a french keyboard(WTH I say to those), it might seem strange, but for the majority of keyboards 1 and ! is on the same key- you hold shift to get !.
    In-game, someone might be going "OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!" and stop holding the shift button down for whatever reason, and it'll be "OMG!!!!!!!!!11" or such.
    It's usually used to show sarcasm.

    Intentional typos are kind of a long, running joke not only among gamers but among the whole community of people who's lives revolve around their activity online. It's a net-head thing. !!!11 is common, so is teh, and so forth. However, !!!11, teh, pwned, pr0n, and so on are all getting PRETTY OLD. Teh was funny in maybe 2000-2001, Jeff K. style !!!11's were current around the same time, and both of those are very very passe, while pwned and pr0n have almost passed into the lexicon as official net-head words. LOL, OMG, ROFL, and other ancient acronyms which originally date back to the advent of The Great Satan, AOL, have seen a revival as parody, evolving into actual words such as lole, roffle, om'gah, w'fuh?, as well as insertions into other words for whatever reason, see Lollerskates, Apoclolipse, and what not.

    those using it are usually people that know how to spell, and are making fun of those that dont. Same thing goes for Leet speak... which is retarded by now and everyone should stop being "1337", and start being "good at NS".

    I dont know if that kind of 'talk' originated here in NS forums, but at least it's the first place where I ran to it. Basically it's just text in capital letters and a typo in (almost) every word. It's a difficult skill to master. If you can't do it, it's not fun, but if you know how to do it properly in right places it can be quite amusing.

    The reason PWNED is still as funny as it is is because it's based on the root word OWNED, which is a word used to express ownership and thus dominance over the adressee(s) by the adresser. However, when one pronounces PWNED, usually it is POE-ND, as in the poet, or pawned, as in the chess piece, neither of which particularly make sense. They are however fun to say. However, the second pronunciation, "Pawned" is also a word used to describe the act of selling off something one doesn't need in exchange for a little money. In this, "Pawning" someone is an economic activity, in much the same was as "Owning" someone is also economic in nature.

    Thus, you occasionally see boasts of not only having owned and pawned you, but rented you and borrowed you, which aren't as funny, but contribute to the overall joke anyway.

    Another fun one is screaming fake german at your comm. Even if you can't speak a word of german, and you're Philipeno, just scream words out with lots of 'aackk' 'err' 'schmiet' sounds in them, you'll get something. Then you have to say a word that summerizes.
