<div class="IPBDescription">Adaption and Progression</div> I kind of wanted to offer this more for the benefit of people who don't necessarily like Akira Toriyama's art style. If you don't want to listen to me ramble, feel free to click the links and browse the art.
Here's where we'll take a trip down Me-Learning-To-Draw-Vegeta Lane. Vegeta was more difficult than I could have imagined, especially because when you do not draw him in the typical DBZ fashion it's very, VERY difficult to capture Vegeta's..shall we say..essence. I wish I had the first picture I drew of him (lies), but we'll have to do with one of the early ones.
Before I begin, I want to note that I draw, quite often, insanely large pictures. Anything bigger than 600x600 or so, I'll just link. (My resolution is set to 1152x864.)
Here's an old bugger:
<a href='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/vegcake.jpg' target='_blank'>As you can see here, Cake inspired me to draw.</a>
At this point, I had abandoned the Toriyama style almost completely. The nose is still the harsh pointed anime thing and I was trying out a different shape for the eyes because I don't like eyes that connect to the eyebrows. I also really sucked at coloring, mainly because my monitor sucked so bad and was so dark I couldn't really see what I was doing.
Full body shot:
<a href='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/vegdance.jpg' target='_blank'>I don't really know what to say about this one.</a>
There are so many things I hate about this pic, but I had worked on it for hours upon hours. In short, I think it was good practice. I wasn't used to drawing guys too much, and topless men at that. Eh. Next up is further movement towards my own style.
I try b&w airbrush instead of coloring:

This one looks ok. The only thing I really regret not doing is finishing the hair. It was the first of a short series I did with airbrush shadowing, all of which, surprisingly, turned out rather well.
Here's where I learn that reference pictures help so much:
<img src='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/vegty3.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Here's where I wish I had done the hair better:
<img src='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/vegty4.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Now this next one is where I really really turn away from DBZ land.
<img src='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/vegbusted.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
He's got a non-triangular nose and his eyes, while not as harsh as they are on the show, keep a darker edge on him. Goku's eyes are always open and just happy looking. Vegeta's are sort of..well..harsh, like I said. Yeah, there's plenty wrong with the pic, but that's ok.
Bonus, Fun Picture:

The next one is large again. Here's where I show what I love to draw: faces.
<a href='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/vegface.gif' target='_blank'>'Sup?</a>
For a sketch, I like it. Vegeta looks happy, but not overly so. Just sorta content. Here's where I start experimenting with noses and the like. I'm really aiming away from pointed-looking anime triangles. I'm adding more defining lines too.
I drew a pic of him with his hair down, for a friend. Just more practice.
<img src='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/forashes2.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Speaking of hair, I was finally getting the knack of it.
Here's a picture that looks so simplistic but took me hours to complete.
<a href='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/lovehurts.png' target='_blank'>It's a .png so I have to link it.</a>
Compare this one to the one of him topless way up at the top of the page. I was a good girl and drew all his scars.
<img src='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/sketch3.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Here's where I tackle him as a kid. He had bangs all that time ago. His chin is more pointed and his cheeks are a little chubby. I made his eyes a different shape, I guess because it felt more kid-like.
<a href='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/prisoner4.gif' target='_blank'>Hello, child.</a>
And last, but definitely not least, a pic of Vegeta with his hair cut. The nose is more defined and there's plenty of little detailing, especially around the eyes.
<a href='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/veggt.gif' target='_blank'>Hello, hair cut.</a>
And I learn to color somewhat.
<a href='http://www.miniclan.org/aslan/art/veggt2.gif' target='_blank'>Oh my goodness, color that isn't crap (for the most part).</a>
Special thanks to Vegeta, for entertaining me since - according to my pictures - at least 2001. And kudos to all who sat through this whole thing. And don't be fooled; I draw more than just Vegeta.
