<div class="IPBDescription">steam soooooooooooooo good</div> id like to know if anyone has a workaround for this:
i run an icafe, and alot of the customers are playing ns now. however, steam requires every new user to install another user directory, and this can be a problem after awhile.
is there any work around for this?
its not a problem with ns per se, but with steam. (and its future business model)

    hmmmmmmmmmmm

Assuming you are doing this legaly (As in you have enugh licences of HL for every one to play on) then the soloution comes down to some tweaking for each comp:

Ok, seeing how as I DON'T know how your set up works I will give one possible soloution (if you tell us more about how everything is set up I will try to come up with another one)

I am also assuming you are trying to do this online (as setting up steam for LAN play is sorta crazy)

So the quick fix is this:
Each Steam install is ussing a seperate steam ID, thus you just install steam and NS on each comp and you just set up steam to auto log in (so that they sit down at the comp and steam is either already running or when they open it they don't have to sign in)
If people want to have their own config simply alow them to make their own cfgs on the NS dir, each time the play they just pull down the con and type "exec name.cfg"

I am guessing this is not your problem (As it was to simple of a fix <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->) So give us some more info and I will try again <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Did you try to contact valve on this?
i'm sure they can help you in some way.
Thansal's idea was good, if you can code some, you might want to make a script for it.

thanks, this is something we considered, and will probably have to implement. (autologin). players wont be able to use their own friends list tho, i wanted them to be able to do that. i guess theres no way around it yet.

and yes, its all legit, i have licenses for all of them.

nope, havent contacted steam. while its all still speculation, i hear that they will have a different pricing model for icafe's, which is really dumb. alot of kids come in, play a new game, and go buy it and play it at home. alot of icafes are breaking away from steam already, especially since its so buggy and dont want to pay even more for a game they already bought. imo, steam/valve is killing off the remaining cs players. did you hear what happened at the CxG? exactly.
i love ns tho, been playing it since 1.0.

umm, Steam dosn't charge for any of the normal games. You CAN buy games through it but it isn't a P2P service.

And If Valve offers different prices thats probably b/c they are willing to sell site licences (aka lots of licences for a discount)

but yah, I would suggest simply alowing them to store usr configs
remember each steam account requires a valid HL/CSr/DoDr CD Key. How many of your customers OWN the games they come to your place to play? (note honest curiosity here <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
