Mouse Of Choice?

You're holding yours now, start bragging
Because I'm giving my current mouse to someone in greater need of it than me (longer unrelated story) I'll be in need of a new mouse soon.

I was planning on treating myself to an upgrade and getting the Logitech MX500, but I'm looking for other good choices too. Feel free to tell me I should instead get <insert mouse of choice name and model here>.
I'm not too picky, only need 3 things:
1: optical
2: non-wireless
3: has scroll wheel

You should go with your instincts and get the MX500. I have the MX700, the 500 is the same just with a wire. My bro has 500, he loves it.

Any mouse by logitech can be assumed to be good. I've had a few and they're all great.

Creative Optical Light (hold the mouse feet)
RatPadz (Except where the mouse feet wore it away) (Through the Teflon Tape)

    Microsoft intelli-mouse.

5 buttons, scroll wheel. It was definately helped my game. Mouse4 is under my thumb, and mouse 5 is covered by my ring finger. I can leap+fastswitch very well, and get called a scripter sometimes

Its about 37 bucks at walmart (or cheaper) and its probably the best mouse Ive ever had. Also the mouse4 button does "Back" and mouse5 does "Forward" in web browsers.

IT does all this without installing any mouseware!

I recommend the same mouse....You can install software for the mouse if you want, but that's only if you want to program your buttons to do different things.

I've had my intellimouse for 5 years now, and it still works like a beaut!

depending on the number and buttons and weight you want on your mouse:

    The Logitechs
MX-500 : 5 buttons with scrollwheel, two side buttons on the left. Cruise Control and some other button with two windows drawn on it. For righthanders only. - $45-50
MX-300 : Normal 3 button with scrollwheel, ambidextrous. -normally not on sale anymore.
MX-310 : I believe, 5 buttons with scrollwheel, one side button on each side. Ambidextrous. -$35-40

I already have an MX-500 so I can't say how the 310 is, but it has as many useable buttons (though one on each side, so depending on personal preference) and is 10 bucks less expensive. It's all about hand comfort then. (Cruise Control and that other button are totally useless imo)

My mice were either logitech (pleased), one Microsoft Explorer mouse (horribly deceived) and generics (depending, but they were all ball mice and eventually broke)

Heh, I have an older model of that which is now about 3-4 years old... It does, in fact, rock.

I'm using a Logitech Dual Optical right now.

    All hail the MX700.

Worth every **** penny. Wireless laser mouse, with docking station. With more buttons than you can poke a stick at.

Slightly expensive, but it's all good baby.

i'm going to be breaking the rules here, but i really realy loved my Boomslang, made by razer.

up until it started double clicking for no reason :O

buut, it's a touch on the expensive side, but this one
    http://www.razerzone.com/boomerspeed.html

which is as close as i could come to the one i had, has much higher dpi than any mouse on the market, at aroudn 3100. but for a pure gaming mouse, Boomslang all the way.

Do not get a Boomslang, as they are expensive, have a rubbish design and non-optical.

I recommend the 5 button Microsoft Explorer thingy, i use one and it's never let me down

I know very well that that mouse is "teh rawk," it's the one I've been using for a couple years and am about to give away.

I read recently that Microsoft is making -- or has already released -- a mouse with a scroll weel for horizontal or vertical motion. Is it out yet? If so, is it good?

    my plain intellimouse optical.

i used to have an intellimouse trackball... and yes, while trackballs do require cleaning occasionally, that thing gave me the BEST control in FPS games... it was terrific.

edit: i don't trust cordless either, man.

Just like some music lovers keep around copies of records instead of moving up to CD's, I love my old microsoft ball mouse too. There's a certain 'feel' to it that makes it more comfortable than many opticals. Cleaning out that thing every once in a while is kinda satisfying, like picking lint out of your bellybutton... okay, maybe that's not for everyone.
And plus I always get to have a few "mouse balls" jokes handy.

I HATE THAT MOUSE!!! I gave it away. Felt like such a waste of money. Worst of the 7 mice I've ever used.

I think ur talking about this one, which is the one I hate so very very much. Problem is there are like 5 intellimouse and the one I have right now is awesome. Old plain optical wheel mouse, 3 buttons.

why do ppl not 'trust' or like wireless mice? is it due to the lag between the mouse and the action? is there, in fact, any?

well... personally I don't like them because I don't like having to worry about batteries or charging. It's not like the cord is really ever enough of a problem for most people to want to change over anyways =/

The Razer Boomslang 1000. I got the last one they had at GameStop about 3 years ago - some people said it was absolute crap, but that mouse improved my quick-reaction accuracy in first person shooters by 40% and my long accuracy by 25%.

I've heard that they're making a new Razer mouse with optical technology; I can't wait, my old Boomslang (which was already used when I got it) gave up a year ago. This Micro$oft Wheel Mouse Optical's got nothing on it!

[edit] Maybe that mouse just improved my accuracy 'cause I have huge hands and its a pretty wide one. If the Viper isn't the same shape as the Boomers were, I might pass it up... [/edit]

Best mouse ever. The only difference between the 700 and 900 are that 900 has bluetooth capabilities.
  • JefeJefe Join Date: 2003-04-21 Member: 15734Members, Constellation
I would have to go for the 700, the docking station all but demolishes any worries about batteries wearing down. It's less than three!
