Some say that's it's a blessing that the baby died,
other say it's a tragedy...
what do you think?
Or do we even have the right to talk about it?
Is a life always worth living?
What would her life HAVE been had she lived?
Or was there no chance of survival from the beginning?
Is natural selection still applicable to the human race?

discuss!!

I'm glad they died. I feel that if you have two heads, you have two minds and therefore two souls. As they have no where near reached the age of understanding, they will be judged by God as innocents, and are in a place far superior to this one.

so you're saying that the baby/-ies are better off in heaven than on earth?
But can we judge that the life on earth would be so bad?
Or are you saying that life in heaven is better ALWAYS?
If I believed in that, I might say that life in heaven would be quite nice; but would I go as far as to encourage an early death to minimize the wait?

i'll hold off on my opinion for a while.

When the age of pre birth gene manipulation comes about this will no longer be an issue, and conjoined twins will be born as two seperate human beings devoid of any health conditions or mental disorders.

It is just a fact we have to accept that people with disabilites are here because there is no way to prevent them from being born without them. Now before you call me politically incorrect, how many parents can you think of that want their children to be born disabled? And what will happen when it becomes a comercial service?

PS: Windelkron your post borders on relegious debates which are prohibited here, just giving you a heads up.

Was there actually two brains ?

I thought the second head was about the equivalent to a tumor and that it wasn't really just another complete head.

Can anyone give me some more information ? It wouldn't be any different then seperating twins in terms of being normal or not if the second head wasn't complete.

On a side note I'd like to commend CURE and all the other people who donated money and blood for what may have seemed like a wasted effort. I think it says something when a child born in the Dominican Republic recieves 100 thousand dollars to help and four gallons of blood are donated. Subtle things like that restore my faith in humanity.

    Nasty.

I know I wouldn't want to live if I had that... deformity, and I might take my own life purposely. I wouldn't care about whatever awaits me on the astral plane - God, hell, Buddhists that've acheived Nirvana, even the space aliens that created the human race (OMG BLASPHEMY!!!!11) since I'm not a very religious person anyways. So yes, I think that someone with that kind of deformity should be killed at birth out of mercy.

That second head was a parasite. Or as they put it, craniopagus parasiticus.

QUOTE

An infant girl born with a second head bled to death Saturday after complex surgery to remove her partially formed twin, her parents and doctors said.

I have my doubts that something that is partially developed has a soul, (to a certain degree). This is the main struggle that people have when it comes to the issue of abortion.

I think that over time, that head would of been dangerous to her.

    Now, what if it wasn't?

Geez... tough call. I really think that I'd opt for an operation no matter what. If the area I was born in had no operation facilities, I'd probably opt for euthanization. Then again, there may always be the hope that somehow the surgery might still be possible?

You guys remember the Guiness Primetime episode that had the Chinese guy who had the record for the most extensive face surgery after a partial twin formed on his face? His parents sought advice as to whether to kill him or not, and his arranged marriage bride ran away in tears when she first saw him.

Nevertheless, he still had the surgery. Who knows, maybe he's lived a good life ever since, and the living after the surgery made life worthwhile.

The baby would have had a very difficult time living a normal life, other children would have either singled him/her out or avoided him/her like the plague.

Whether the childs life would have been worth living with the deformity, or risking it's life to secure something closer to a more peaceful existence was a decision that could only have been made by the parents. They made the decision, they knew and accepted the risks.

A more interesting question, however, what if both heads were fully formed and situated on the shoulders. In essence, having two heads. Would they have one soul or two? Would they agree that one ate while the other drank? And would the government be stingy and consider them as two people for taxation purposes, but only one for employment purposes?

Back on topic though, it's sad that the child died but there is little else that the doctors could have done.

How do we know there is a god? Could've been a genetic mishap.

He doesn't seem to respond to many questions nowadays, seems like.

I say if it isn't dangerous to remove, then by all means, remove it, but, if it will likely kill the baby in the process, and isn't life threatening at the moment, then it's a bit of a disgusting thought to me to risk its life when it isn't needed. Euthenasia...definately a disgusting thought. Were it my child I would've done everything in my power to give it a good life. If they decided the deformity was too much, and wanted to die..well...thats a completely different matter than ME deciding thier deformity is too much for them.

Well, some of us aren't really that close to God. I myself am agnostic, so I can't say I really believe that God is responsible for that poor baby.

The thing is, some of you people are saying that you're glad this baby died because then it wouldn't be shunned, but weren't they taking the parasitic head off in this operation? Now, I don't know about you guys, but I'd much rather live a life with a slightly deformed head than not living one at all.

Anyway, I'm not really 'glad' it died, nor would I have cared if it lived. It's a baby with a mutant growing on its head. Maybe you heard of the two girls that decided to get seperated at the head and died? Much more interesting then some baby that can't even roll over.

According to that logic, we should just euthanize all of our children so they would ALL go to a better place. And to avoid our hands getting dirty, we could just put pagans on the task, as they won't be going to heaven anyway.

    A sound plan?

There is a clear and definate difference between something dying, and something being killed. When something dies I feel sad, but I dont feel that any evil has taken place. When something is killed, especially human, then I feel differently to when it dies as a matter of course.

If children are killed, then thats bad - but I see a bright side to it, even if they are murdered. When you kill your children, you are taking away their life, something which isnt yours to take. You've stolen their life from them. When your child dies of natural causes, then nothing wrong is done.
