Temporary Stereo Reversal

Anyone ever log onto a game and have their stereo sound reversed? In other words you hear sounds coming out of the wrong speaker? It is happening to me once in a while, and it's very annoying to turn exactly the wrong direction from the enemy I hear, exposing my back to them.

I have a Soundblaster PCI 128 with current drivers. It only happens about 10-20% of the time... My usual solution is to put my headphones on backwards for the duration of the problem (they aren't very comfortable that way though).

Please don't flame me, I looked around for a while, but never saw anything to suggest that this is a common problem.

I have this same problem, I use a program to talk with my friends called Ventrilo, and whenever I play NS and only NS without it open my in game sound is reversed. If I open Ventrilo before playing it works fine, any sugestions on this strange bug?? I may just buy a new sound card since mines old enough to start turning to dust any day now.

Is this NS specific? Something similar happened to me once, reboot fixed it though.

I use an SB Live 5.1. I'd try reinstalling the drivers. If it is NS specific, all I can say is that that's really weird.. and I have no other advice.

sometihng you might wana try is to simply tell your computer that you are ussing a different speaker set up, then switch back to headphones.

this will probably make the soundcard send out different signals, and then correct itself (I often get this with my comp treating my 4spkrs as only 2)

Thanks for the replies. As far as it being NS specific: I don't really know, if I am listening to music I have no way of knowing if the sound is coming out of the correct speaker, since there is no visual cue to match it with. I am not playing any other games currently to compare it with.

I'll try the speaker setting thing and see if that does anything. I'll also see if the problem is fixed by leaving the game and coming back, or if it's windows reboot that set's it straight when it happens.

    Thanks for the leads!

    Thansal,

I tried this, and it worked. Of course this was an intermittant problem, and I may see it again, but this is a much quicker way to deal with it than a reboot.

    Thanks!
