How Does Scoring Work? (not K/d)

For marines?
The score system for marines seems a little counter-intuitive. I havn't figured it out yet, but all I know is that you can be the comm's little ***** and build every building, go to every waypoint, and do the best for your team when the guys who are doing something else (i dunno what it is yet) get all the points.

What's going on? This really doesn't help the commander at all as the score means... well, nothing. I can almost understand the alien score, and can see how it is maybe a little reflective of the player's contributions to the team, but the marine one makes no sense.

Fix it or remove it!

EZero, as commander you can always check on their RTs, just check which resource nodes have steam coming out of them and which dont.. easy!

The comm gets points for the structures placed, plus any turret kills, and any buildings destroyed by sieges (I think). Everyone else just gets points for kills or destroying buildings. I could be wrong, but I think that's how it works.

You get points for kills and killing buildings. I think buildings are weighted (hives being like, 8 points, the rest being 2), but anyway.

    Skulk is 1 point, gorgie's 2, lerk's 3, fade's 4, Onos is 5. That's it.

The comm gets 2 points for every structure, 3 for every RT.. and that's it (Plus points for kills from turrets, and sieges killing structures..).

Aliens get the same, it's just more spread out (Since anyone can gorge, and only the commander gets points for building.)

it's a bit unfair though, if 5 guys are knifing a hive but only one gets the points from it =)

Yeah, then you get something akin to Hero Arena sydrome in Warcraft, were its all about getting the last hit for the kill (and in their case, the gold).

Heh, and the comm can try to drop them and see if they work

Anyhow, when it comes to combat, score and kills/deaths are appropriate. I would never propose taking individual stats from combat, or for that matter CS/DOD/TF/pick your dm mod.

Well umm the building scores in marines should goto the marine who finishes the structure.. not the comm...
But one thing would be neat, add "damage done to players / structures" and quess you could add "this many points build (if say 2 rines build a structure, only one would get the score but both would get build points ).. This would reveal SO much more than the point system we now have.. And I think codewise it's easy to make. Well umm quess this should be in i&s

you get 1 point for every 5 res of the building you just droped or killed. a 10 res building gives you 2 points. a 15 res building 3 points. ect.

im not sure how this is effected with upgrades tho.

thats why in combat when you kill a hive you get 8 points, but only 4 for the cc.

If all the marines concentrate on being the last one to hit the hive to kill it, maybe some skulks can spawn in and kill them, so no one gets the points.

I dunno why they changed it. they should have just kept individual scores out. Can any one explain to me why it is back. i bet its cos of combat could they not have it so its on that but not on classic.

Now that it's been brought up...

Most people like scores. They like to be able to "see how [their] doing"

This will help expand the NS community.

I hate it. The lack of individual scores was one of the things that got me thinking "hey, this isn't like the fps games I've played! There's no need for individual scores!"

Sure more people like scores, but then again more people like, counterstrike for example. The implementation of individual scores is completely agains't the princicple and uniqueness of NS.

this is a teamplay game. Only TEAMSCORE counts. Ignore your own score and be usefull.

And that's exactly the point... (you guys prolly know my position on individual stats by now) However, the fact that an individual score exists implies that it's important. I don't care about my score, most of the regulars on my community's server don't care about theirs, but now there are lots of non-regulars who do everything based on the score. This is problematic, and is an issue shouldn't be ignored. That's where the problem comes from.

If the team's playing as well, a team, then you won't have just one marine attacking the building or the onos... which really doesn't work when one person gets rewarded. If noone looks at the scores, then why are they there?

There's the whole bit about "it's to help the comm!" Then there's the whole bit about "noone looks at the individual scores!" Well, so are people looking at them or not? If they are, then it's a very bad thing as they don't mean anything useful, and if they're not, then why have them?

I'm not proposing to remove any new section from the scoreboard, (although I'd really like to) I'm just suggesting that they be modified to become a more accurate representation of the player's contributions to the team's effort to win. Now, I don't have any ideas on a new system just yet, but I'm sure collectively the community could think of something.

theres a slight problem with the scoring system also

in the beginning...if you keep a close watch on alien score... you can actually tell how many rts aliens have :x

just see how many ppl have a score of 3 (well unless some skulk pwned 3 nubs in the first minute)

only combat might have use for score, which I still doubt
