Spam Filtering Software?

Easy enough for mom to use
My mom is asking me again to look into something to filter the SPAM out of her inbox. Its gotta be something simple and automatic, because my mom won't know what the hell she's doing. Any sort of "training" the program to recognize what's what won't do.

Is there anything out there that detects the random gibberish in the mail header (stuff like zoxciulZOLOFTozjlk) and marks/deletes it? Like runs a spell check on the mail's raw source and if a certain percentage is misspelled (i.e. its gibberish) then it marks it as spam?

She gets like 20 something spams a day so something has to be done.

Trend Micro Internet Security is an all-in-one package - virus scanner, spam filter, personal firewall, network virus protection, email scanner (ie: for virus attachments), and even a url filter to block stuff like porn pop-ups.

It's very easy to use and painless to get updates (click the 'update' button and it does everything on its own).

Of all the all-in-one virus scan packages I've seen/used in the past few years, this one is probably the only one I can really recommend.

There's a 30-day trial so she/you can make sure it's what you're looking for. The full version is US$44.95 (bit pricey, but worth it!)

I've been running Trend Micro's virus scanners for the past few years and I've never had a virus on this computer or my server. And even with the scanner running on a full system scan, there was absolutely no slowdown even on my ol' athlon 650.

I realize this is probably overkill if you're just looking for a simple spam filter, but this program has everything you might need in one product, and does it all better than most other programs can do seperately.

    Hmm.

We use Trend Micro's corporate server thingy at work and have been nothing but extremely happy with it, didn't know there was a end user product. I'll definately check it out. Mom wanted to ditch Norton too, so if I can add Trend micro instead that'll be a big bonus.

    Thanks :D

Mozilla, or Thunderbird. Both of them have polymorphic spam filters... in a couple days to a week, they 'learn' what is, and what isn't spam. And telling it what IS is as simple as clicking on the 'spam' button.

It can move them out to a spamfolder (just in case), or leave them as your received, but with a bright blue 'SPAM' trash can icon. Can set up protected addresses if mails from someone (such as a business you have dealings with) keep getting hit by the spamfilter.

Plus, if you go with full Moz, you also get to use a browser that doesn't suck, or have the huge, gaping security holes and noncompliance-to-standards that IE seems to flaunt.

    check for something called Mailwasher.
You run it, it checks your mail, takes any crap out of it and then sends the rest to outlook express. But of course you can control it.
