Online
Anyone know a good website that has information on not only small arms but also heavy infantry weapons like rocket launchers and other special purpose weapons? I know about world.guns.ru, but for a project I'm working on I need a more detailed encyclopedia.
I would appreciate any good links.

you checked the blackmarket?
are there any guns you need specific info for? i can help you out, maybe..
did you want stationary weapons, mobile weapons, personal weapons, or airborne weapons?
the shoulder-mounted weapons are just about the only personal anti-tank weapons the US military really uses. the M82 series is used mostly for anti-material purposes, but has seen some anti-vehicle work. (side note: does anyone know if the US has adopted any more recent versions of the m82?)
if you meant mobile weapons too, i like the GAU 19/A. it's a truck-mounted or APC-mounted three-barrelled weapon that fires .50bmg rounds at a selectable 1000 or 2000rds/min =D
there are plenty more.. the m242 25mm chain gun is another popular apc-mounted gun. the AT-4 rocket launcher is the primary personal AT (anti-tank) weapon in the US military. the rocket is tipped with a shaped charge for maximum efficiency in the hands of infantry.
Right. Ive been waiting a long time for a decent The Thing game, dont let buddy **** it up. Second, just to pick nits, the M82 isnt really antitank, more like soft skinned targets, trucks and the like.
oh yea, Jane's has a really good encyclopedia, have to but it though.
It contains information on US weapon systems only though. Also tanks/planes and ships, but I figure you're gonna be more interested in the weapons.
Massive index of American inventories used today, and some no longer in circulation. Also has a database of common weapons and equipment fielded by international militaries.
A great source for all your weaponry needs.
A-10 uses the GAU 8/A Avenger, a 7 barrel 30mm behemoth that fires 3600 - 4200 rounds per minute, depending on settings. Very anti tank.

*cough* didn't read post *cough*
An additional weapons site I know of:
WaffenHQ - but it's only in german. Fairly easy to get the information you need about basic weapons statistics (you're almost guaranteed not to understand the weapons history and operating principles.
Click on Infantrie and you'll get a list of all their weapons (with a group of drop-boxes to minimize your searching. If you're looking for a specific gun, you have to remember German usually translates words so they can be pronounced through reading them....such as Dragunov SVD - Dragunov SWD, or PP-19 Bizon - PP-19 Bison (probably be a bigger problem with soviet based weapons than American).
The site has pictures for every weapon listed too, although if used in a manual you'd almost definately have to ask permission to use them. Most of the statistics are fairly obvious too; with a label like: Länge and a stat like 660mm it's fairly obvious it's length [one not so obvious one would be Zahl/Drall which is rifling]. Also german uses an X.xxx,xx instead of american X,xxx.xx.
Should still be useful.
[PS: The Barret M82 is not an anti-tank weapon, it is anti-material. Its .50 caliber round is effective against soft targets...not tanks - as someone stated earlier]
Bigger Hammer
they have movies of guns fireing... but watch out, in almost every one of them, there is a guy holding his... thing... and well, hence the warning.
go to manuals, and they have user manuals, and (at the bottom) actualy production blues.
