Steam?

I tried to play ns today and steam had downloaded a recent update and now my maps and dll_client differ from the servers.Does anyone know what this problem might be??

    Beta 3 of NS3.0 has been released. Either you're running an older version, or the server you're trying to connect to is.

    I installed this said patch earlier and now it's b0rked steam, I just get an error message when I try and load up steam. I uninstalled steam then reinstalled every thing but the second I installed the beta3 patch again steam became b0rked.

    "Steam has caused an error in STEAM.DLL.
    Steam will now close."

    ah well no more NS for me it seems

    Anyone else had this problem?

    ASUS A7N8X-X Mother Board with NForce 2
    Athlon XP 2200
    256MB PC3200 ram
    Geforce 4 Ti 4800

    On Windows ME
