Question ot vets about balance

Well as i read oh so many posts i keep hearing about how a single Alien can make short work of a Marine squad, and that if you like to go it alone and still rule butt thats the way to go.  Well if this be so, were is the balance?

I understand that the Marines got a commander for corrdinating people and can see where the aliens are and drop ammo and the like, but as i said i read all about a single alien keeping near some defensive chambers just cuts through a well made plan like a hot knife in butta.

So ide really like to hear some feedback on this, as im sure there is a reason to play Marines and oh so many of the gameplay storys are about Marines pwning, but that just might be its more intresting to play the down and out, screwed from the start FSA.

Thanks ahead.             <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/asrifle.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='::asrifle::'><!--endemo--> ouch ouch ouch <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->

Cause why tell a story about you walking down the hall, killing a few aliens, and killing a hive in normal fashion? The ones where it's a huge battle are memorable, and thus, the ones you guys hear about <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
The balance this weekend is just about perfect!

The balance is maintained by several means.

    1) Marines are *very* effective in groups.  Multiple kills for aliens generally occur because of ambushes or similar strategies.  A coordinated marine team can really dish out pain.

    2) Marine firepower is nasty - 10 rounds from an LMG, 4 from a HMG, or ~5 from a pistol will take down a skulk.

    3) Alien weaponry is primary melee.  If marines see an alien coming, he's toast.

    4) Marine base defense is superior to that of the aliens.

    5) The coup-de-gras: the commander.  Aliens don't have anyone dropping health and ammo from the sky while they're fighting.  An effective commander (combined with welders to repair armor) can extend the life expectancy of his squad a *great* deal.

The game is as balanced as they can possibly make it,  That is all you need to know.

I prefer to decide for myself what I need to know.

Besides, I'd be really surprised if the first version is devoid of big balance issues. Usually you don't notice these things with such a small playerbase.

Exactly. Just look at Warcraft 3. Just months after release glaring imbalances were found.

It's so bad that the vast majority of units manage to suck <b>and</b> own <i>simultaneously</i>. <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->

Yes, there will be patches to correct balance issues we missed in playtest.  But PLEASE try to have a little more faith in the dev team.  They and the playtesters are doing the best we can.

CollateralDamage, if you are so pessimistic, why are you sitting around these forums all day? No answer needed...

Such a small playerbase of 80? I think that's enough people to notice some balance issues. And CD, you stay here why? You have some grudge against the mod, apparently, and you seem convinced that it's going to suck. There's a good reason why you're permabanned from IRC. Stop bringing everyone down with your uninformed "opinion" and take a hike.

(Second flame of the day. But then, there were 2 deserving recipients today.)

Edit: "I prefer to decide for myself what I need to know."? So you basically select what you "know" and ignore anything that doesn't fit? No wonder you have such a low opinion of this mod. No wonder we all hate you.

Of all your wrong conclusions, let me clear up just one: I cannot be permabanned from IRC.
  • GobyWanGobyWan Join Date: 2002-02-22 Member: 234Members
    My "wrong conclusions":

1)You're a jackass and the whole community hates you, because you hang around saying things to the effect of "NS sucks and everyone who likes it is stupid".

2)You have been added to the banlist on IRC. Whether or not you can avoid that ban, you haven't been seen there in ages, due to conclusion number one.

3)You have an all-encompassing grudge against this mod, evidenced by your constant naysaying and refusal to see anything but the problems that you imagine exist within NS.

I think I can safely say that I'm right on all 3 counts. To avert a flamewar with the most flameworthy of posters, I'm just going to leave it at that and let one of the mods deal with this thread.
