Trains?

Do any of the current NS maps have some sort of train in them?  Do any maps have a train system where a group of marines could get on a tram car and travel - like the tram from Half-Life singleplayer?

Well ns_penumbra had an interesting tram system in it, and ns_romana also had a tram, though much smaller scale, but unfortunately neither of those maps are official.

ns_bast has a tram tunnel, with a tram at one end, but it doesn't actuallly move anywhere.

Hmm... that would be an interesting matchup. Train going one way vs. Onos Charging the other way. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Penumbra's tram system is really cool, and i encourage mappers to put more train based entities in there maps, they add alot of atmosphere.

Ya, some train trams must be really cool....
Maybe implement them as a shorcut to some places, anyways this its up to the mapper......
[rollseyes] i imagine a marine waiting for the train when he sees the tram pass by the station at full speed with 4 skulks, an onos and a fade on it..... 5 secs after he sees 5 lerks flyin behind it and then after several seconds some valkiries at full speed following the tram.....
Note: I just imagined that its a bit exagerated but funny if you could see it <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

It'd be cool if, say, you weld a certain computer terminal on the map to activate the tram tube, and it gives the marines speedier, better access to attack a certain hive or strategic location.

    Um...

Have you played the mod svencoop? 4 people get on a tram... it goes all wonky and laggy and people start sliding off and getting crushed and stuff... unless Flayra is really > than the HL engine <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

Lol, Svencoop expierience: We were on a tram level, and the tram would never move right. Eventually I took the controls and discoverend that the Tram was independant of the tracks. I drove it into a big room and flew it up to the ceiling and drove it in circles. It was one of my best half-life flying experiences ever, short of rocketcrowbar.

FYI: any vehicle, no matter how slow WOULD push an onos back even if it was at full speed, pretty posotive there, thats how it is in HL and other mods, dont think you can change that, unless you made a new vehicle/func pushable combination entitie.

bast and other maps have some big elevators which are technically the same thing as trains, from the engine's perspective. ;)

Too bad UT2K3's vehicle engine can't be shoved into HL. :\

As for the tram pushing the Onos back... if that Onos jumped onto the tram... ergh....
    Oh! Futuristic monorails! <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

Yeah, trams in multiplayer games with multiple users on them don't seem to work to well for some reason.

I think it has something to do with the connection speed.... if someone had like a 25 ping trams would run smooth.

I think a tram at full speed chasing an onos, the onos has no chance, once the tram makes contact the onos is just Alien Gibs <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

/me pictures 4 skulks waiting for the train so they can attack the marine base.

skulk 1: So... hows the family joe?
skulk 2: Bleh... cant complain, the youngins keep biting, but you know... thats life eh?
    *awkward silence*
    *train arrives*
skulk 1: Well, i guess its back to work now huh?
    skulk 2: yeah...

    RAWR!

Or a subway like tram with a roof on it, so a skulk hanging onto the ceiling in ambush will drop onto the roof of the tram as it speeds by and claws through a destroyable grate to gain entrance inside the tram...

That'd be cool.. the marines would just hear a "thump" on the roof  <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/bob.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='::skulk::'><!--endemo-->

Then again.. Half Lifes tram code would probably cause the skulk to slide/teleport off the tram and appear directly in front of it <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Pneumbra was awsome, only played it 2 times tho. The giant tram would move out every like minuite or so, two huge blast doors would wind open, it would go through a big area, then end up at a station looking like th one in the Resident Evil movie....the problem is that bobs hang on the ceiling and would almost always wait for a lone marine and hop on his poor skull from above the train.
