until this latest patch
ok...i have a bone to pick. you guys ruined what i considered the best hl mod out there. i say this as a clan leader and a server admin. in what apears to be an attempt at balancing...you nerfed the aliens so much...they cant survive...either that or you overpowered the marine weapons...i mean...come on...i shotgun blast kills a skulk...thats ludicris...and thats with full health and armor...but that same skulk can bite a marine at map start about 5 times and get killed by a couple lmg bullets...i cant speak for the rest of my clan...but i personally am refusing to play this mod again until it gets fixed...ill reinstall 2.01 on my server and play that

I don't see what you're talking about, there was no weapon damage increase or anything in 3.0, the only thing they did was weaken skulks, BUT they also made their hitboxes a lot smaller so they're harder to hit. They also fixed the hitboxes for fades and onos, but they gave them more hp to compensate for that.
Maybe you have to try and adapt a new play style or get the 2nd hive and MCs up.
22.1 for shotty?
i thought it was 16 damage per pellet, still you can kill a skulk in one shot with lvl 3, not matter what armor they have. its been done >.<
*Edit* Bleh! i didn't read the whole thing, soz.*
Good for you.
It's a bloody beta, what do you expect, tea and biscuits? If you don't like it, don't play it and that's exactly what you're going to do. No-one is forcing anyone to play the beta or ns in general. The game needs tweaking still, that's true but it has improved alot over previous builds and quite frankly I personally think it's alot more fun than 2.**.
I hope you have fun playing 2.**.
I agree that skulks are rather weak but the fade is like a flying tank, difficult to kill and can respond quickly to any threats. Lerk is a decent fighter but umbra = a bit overpowered if you ask me, as HMGs/shotguns become next to useless and grenades aren't very good for taking down units besides the skulk(which, may I again mention, sucks). Onos is extremely powerful with celerity+regen, and at a 79 total res cost, can be achieved fairly quickly(about 10 mins into the game and you should have enough and your team having built a 2nd hive built with 3 DCs and 3 MCs) with 4+ nodes up, 6+ nodes and it's onospam time.
Onos with regen/celerity +umbra support is simply teh jesus, can run headlong into 3 HA/HMGs, eat a guy, and run away with ample health to spare, get most of the alien team to do this, with like 4 onos and 2 lerks with umbra, and its GG marines.
Basically the only marine wins I see now are during the midgame when the aliens get careless and a marine sneaks into one of their hives and it gets phase+shotty rushed, depriving the aliens of their powerful 2nd hive abilities, or when marines demoralize the aliens early on by killing the res towers that are initially built, and then get up multiple electrified nodes and locking down two hives (only happens with poor aliens, and even if allowed to get 2 hives and such, wouldn't likely have the teamwork necessary to get onos train+umbra for the win)
The only problems I see with alien gameplay now is that the res hoarder problem will likely become worse, as the gorge is still boring, weak, fat, and did I mention boring? The skulk simply sucks so nobody will want to be stuck as one for long. Also people accustomed to combat won't recognize the importance of the "fat ones".
So.. in short, try to look past the crappy skulk, early fade for teh win, umbra is teh ub3r l337, and onos ownz0rs, and fatty needs loving
p.s. Yah, I bashed the skulk a lot, with leap+silence the skulk becomes decent , but by the time you have 2 hives (as MC is still commonly a 2nd chamber), most of the fighting players should be able to afford a lerk, fade, or pwnos.
As for the damage calculator, for shotgun it's per pellet, not the entire shot...
P.S. The only skulk that can take a shotgun blast is a hive 3, cara skulk. And that's only if at least pellet misses.

K it does 22 damage per pellet when you have lvl 3 weapons...
I've always wondered this but:
Do you guys aim at a specific section of the marine when you bite. I mean naturally I just go for the legs because I'm on level with them. And it does end up taking me more than 2 bites for level 0, so I've started to wonder if going for the legs is wrong.
Basically: Where should you aim when you try to bite a marine to death as a skulk?

Always aim at the waste.
No no most of my experiences have been early game. I'm not making this up, I wish I was but I'm not. And I'm not talking about locational damage I'm taking about marine hitboxes, which I always figured to be Gordon Sized, but time and again I've been proven wrong...

It takes you more bites because you're missing them. Aim at the waist or above so that you'll still hit them if they jump, as most marines frequently do. The blood splatter usually tells you quite easily when you missed.
Just because you lose sometimes, don't blame the game.
Look, what YOU don't seem to understand that this is the current BETA, open for public. With this, Flayra wants to test the builds on public, instead of testers. Many changes have yet to come, if this build is somewhat unbalanced, it doesn't mean this is going to be the final version. Once again, this is just a BETA. If you don't seem to understand that mister admin, then I suggest you'd stop playing untill the final version is released.
