Downloading Sounds

<div class="IPBDescription">HL thing</div> You know how when you connect to some servers and they make you download tons of sounds? Is there anyway you can skip that? The sounds are kind of fun, but not when you have to download for half an hour just to play on a server.

If they are on the server, you have to download them. The only way of kindof getting around it is to hope they have a website you can download the sound pack from. Its usualy much faster then waiting for the sounds to download.

That will work, but then you wont be able to connect to that server. So its a trade off, you have to decide whether that server is so favourable that you're willing to do some thumb exercises in the meantime while you wait for obnoxious sounds of the like "Rampage!" and "Running Wild!".

Little off topic, but what I do after I download all the sounds of the server is replace them with blank ones, so they aren't as incredibly annoying.

Heh I like the sounds, I just don't like spending 30 minutes dling them.

No servers "require" those 3rd party sounds. The only sounds required to play are those that come with NS. If you have cl_allowdownload set to 0, the sounds simply won't play.

The holds true for CS servers which use the Unreal Tourny sounds like "monster-kill". Simply don't download them and you won't hear them (as they are hella annoying).

Oh, thank goodness. Having to download 50 sounds just to play iceworld is horrible.


Strange thing, but I've never encountered NS servers that ask you for stupid sounds like that.

But you wont be able to download all those CRAZY 3rd party maps with the cows and elephants that come to eat your hive.

I guess you could turn it on again if you wanted to dl a custom map.
