You also might want to provide some useful info, like how many servers you've tried, whether other steam HL mods work, and if you have any customizations.
And are you sure under the 'Game' column it says 'Natural Selection v3.0 Beta 3'?
A quick check to see if you have installed beta 3 properly:
Go to:
...\steam\steamApps\yourEmail\Half-Life\nsp
if there is NOT a file called xfire_installer then you didn't install the beta 3 patch corectly.
Make sure you point the installer at:
...\steam\steamApps\yourEmail\Half-Life\
I was running NS3.0b2 just fine and downloaded the NS3.0b3 patch from a torrent link on the ns website. (Thus installing b3 over b2 with no complaints from the patching prog). (Xfire installer is in the dir as mentioned by Thansal)
When connecting to servers on the net (boomtown, surftown, jolt.co.uk and others) I get the same message that "Your system has been modified, please remove this modification if you want to play on this server code [35, 63]"
The servers I connect to claim to be running NS3b3.
Am running w2ksp4++.
Using Steam and Halflife retail.
Anyone experienced the same prob? Any clues?
Update:
Tried to create a game on my own system and was not allowed to connect to my own server. Hmm.
what you are hitting is probably CD (Cheating Death=3rd party anti cheat software) borking on you.
Try some other servers (or possibly download and install CD from united admins)
Funny thing is that I was running CD when I tried <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
However issue is solved. I uninstalled NS and reinstalled NS3b1 and then applied the NS3b3 patch. Problem gone.
So no incremental upgrade i take it. When b4 comes maybe one has to reinstall b1 and then use the b4 patch.
That msg basicaly is saying that 'this server has compleate file consistancy enabled' you have don't something to your copy of NS (models, sounds, what have you).
there was probably some minor discrepencie between your files and the server (not enugh to actualy matter,but enugh for the server to pick it up).
This is designed so that people can't use simple file replacement hacks.
