and crashes NS when I try to quit
Here are the specs:

Athlon 1500+
Maddog Prowler 4.1
Radeon 9600 Pro
512 megs of RAM
OpenGL
Windows 98
800x600
No EAX
Half-Life
Steam
3.0 Beta 3

So this is what happens. I start up NS and join a server. Upon actually joining it all my sounds gets static. Lots of it. To the point where I have to turn off the sound in game. Once this has happened, even if I leave the server the static will be there, when I'm browsing servers in the menu. Whenever I try to quit when it's like this, my computer freezes, and I have to hit my reset button. And I do have the latest drivers. If I remove NS and do a fresh install, it's fine the first time. But once I quit the first time, and start it up again, the problem arises. Please help, I need my NS!

    Reinstall your ns.

    Now what you must try:

    When installed, don't run it.

    Go to config.cfg

Set the keys how you would like them, i take it you know how that works.

    Save config.cfg

    Set config.cfg to READ ONLY

Try again, run ns, quit, and run again, what happens?

I said in the first post that I had the latest drivers. How about reading the entire thing and posting something useful next time?

he said that because its the logical answer. I know the mad dog cards are supposed to be good, i've only looked at the cover. Me, i perfer to stick with the true and tried company, creative labs. you might try looking at cmi's site for trouble shooting (they make the actual chipset on the sound card (CMI 8738 MX/SX DSP). basically the same one they stick on motherboards. they may have a different set of drivers for u to use. If not, then get back ur 20 bucks and buy something else.

now as for ur problem, what version of direct x do u use? its a few years since i've gamed on 98 so i dont' know if 9.0b is available for that os.

you can also try reducing the quality of sound from high to low. thats what i have to do when i play dod, i get the same staticy sound, but i know my problem has something to do with the drivers because it worked before the upgrade.
