<div class="IPBDescription">5 new shots</div>I've been keeping myself going with the new ns_lost, and I must say that I am very pleased with myself and my work. If any of you missed my last update, showing off the first pics after the restart, you can find it <a href="http://www.natural-selection.org/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=4;t=5728" target="_blank">here.</a>
First, I think I'll start you off with 3 shots of one of the hive rooms.
#5 - Here we have the resource nozzle nestled up top inside an infested overlook. You can look out the window and see a part of the spaceship exterior around you.
<img src="http://pages.cthome.net/mrolek/lost05.jpg" border="0">
#6 - Right near the marine enterance to the hive (and yes, there is only one marine enterance to this hive, but I've noticed that some of the official maps have one hive with only one marine enterance, and my other 2 hives will have 2 marine enterances). Up the ladder on the left is shot #5.
<img src="http://pages.cthome.net/mrolek/lost06.jpg" border="0">
#7 - Looking back from atop the slanted cieling. Around the right of the hive, up on a ledge is a vent enterance (which doesn't actually lead anywhere yet).
<img src="http://pages.cthome.net/mrolek/lost07.jpg" border="0">
#8 - Some of you may remember what this hall used to look like in the old lost (the crates are a dead giveaway). Notice the high-poly crate in the back. I didn't spend 5 minutes vertex manipulating it for nothing (only to find out that rotating it created all sorts of invalid solid structure errors. oh well).
<img src="http://pages.cthome.net/mrolek/lost08.jpg" border="0">
#9 - The room. With things. Not to be confused with 'Room With Things' mind you. By the way, this shot is, in my opinion, my best work to date.

That pwns, nice... everything. Good luck with the rest of it. Very good use of the ps.
Best. Map. Ever.
Well, maybe not ever, but a fitting addition to the Natural Selection line of maps.

the last shot is the best, by far. i really like that 'little blue light that illuminates about 3 inches' stuff. adds lots of character to the map. and the floor lights. those too are very cool. excellent work.
Belg
*thinks hard*
In the last pic, in the very bottom left, that ramp or whatever with the round grate looks a little funny running into the floor. Chances are very good that the shot was taken from a weird angle and that part actually looks quite a bit different, but it looks a little strange from the 2d view that I have.
*edit* On second thought, it looks like it doesn't actually touch the floor..Is it some sort of light box? I'm confused <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo--> .
@ Vyvn - If you look on the far wall at the red light, it's the same exact thing as on the near wall. It's sort of a light box, but really just something to break up the flat wall architecture and give me an excuse to throw in some red accent lighting.
If I had to gripe about one thing, it would be the red lighting in that last shot. It seems to stand out and clash against the blue theme. Perhaps if it was toned down enough, it could blend in better.
Really though, that's just being picky. These shots are amazing. Awesome job! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
Edit: That reply didn't do a very nice job of conveying my excitement about these areas. I really can't tell you how cool I think those last two shots are. The lighting is unreal.

Well then, I have no more complaints. Carry on.
I really like the hallway in picture 8, it's great.
The room in picture 9 looks too busy, too dicsordant, too many colored lights and too many textures for my taste.
@ Chrome and Black Wolf - About the business, I'm not going to lie or anything. I built that room the way it is simply for the sake of making it look 'interesting.' Whether interesting means busy or not, I can't say, and it's really any person's interpretation. And the flatness of the hive room is somewhat dual purpose. Not only does this provide more than enough room for alien evolution flat ground, but also this is the hive room that, as far as I can predict, will be the one most often taken over by the marines. I decided to keep the ground mostly flat with most of the lumps on and around that one wall to allow sufficient choice in building placement for the marines. The room is still mostly covered with a blanket of infestation, just not a total takeover yet.

Only one complaint, check screenshot #7, that infestation sticking of the wall, has the texture pretty much screwed up, world it =).
Looks damn good, keep up the good screenies =)
@ MonsE - That's great to hear! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
@ Angel - I've already discussed the flatness, and I think I'll let my decision on what to do with it on how the map plays in this room moreso than how it looks.
@ Batt - It's just the lighting. It's not aligned to world, no, but it's not stretched any moreso than any of the other infestation around it. And if I did align to world, then I'd have a visible seam where the texture didn't align.
The infested areas don't look organic (most notably 1 and 3). They look like metal walls with infestation paint on them. More goopyness is required. (Curvy is your friend.) Either that, or less infestation. That looks like some heavy duty infestation going on in there.
The recessed area in 3 needs some of that goop to be going over the lip in the floor, so it's not a perfect clean cut looking square.
I say makt i nice and bumpy then, it may be closer, or better tactical position for the marines, so make it harder to control with less room for turrets and such. Awesome work so far tho!
<img src="http://pages.cthome.net/mrolek/lost05.jpg" border="0">
I have a question. What is that blue stuff behind the infestation on that blue part? Is that glass with blue behind it? If so, much more sexy.
