Onos availability

I am under the impression that you can only evolve to an Onos if the aliens control 3 (?) hives. Now if the Onos is as powerful as all the PTs say, won't it be impossible for the Marines to come back after this? Do any of the PTs have any stories of such a comeback, or is it a sure thing that the marines are toast?

Well AFAIK, an Onos is very hard to get, combined firepower can (eventully) take one down, And there is always Heavy Armour

    It's happened. It's rare, but it's happened.

That's why you try to keep them from getting that third hive.

If the aliens are able to build 2 more hives, and keep the first one alive and all 3 alive, and some players can save enough RP to go level 5, the marines have been camping at base a weee bit too long

STC. The resource system is still undergoing tweaking, and it basically determines the entire speed of the game.

I wouldn't have thought an Onos would be a very common occurence with clans, (marines would kill hives etc) although, on publics it may be slightly more common.....

I've played on a lot of games where we got 3 hives and started running amuck, only to have the Marine commander say 'drop everything and go attack the engine room hive'!!! They all do a suicide run and manage to take it out sometimes. It's great fun, even if they fail.

The level 5 can actually die fast, if your base is well structured, and you play it smart. It's rare to see more then 1 level5 once you get 3 hives up, at a time.

Ah, so thats why people should wait for the others to evolve into an Onos.

You won't see an Onos every game, but when you do it's quite impressive.

For the four seconds you hear it coming, and the half second you can actually see part of it's barrelling form bearing down on you, at least.

Don't forget the 20 or so seconds of watching it romp through your base while you wait to respawn for what could be the last time.

Also remember if they have Ohnoses, they very likely have cloaking. This means that even the most empty and quiet room can contain this creature.

Also an Ohnos can camp right outside the MS and kill the marines as they come out. This will usually bottle them in long enough for Fades with bile bombs to take out the base.

As for time, an Ohnos under ideal conditions (i.e. the marines don't go anywhere) could appear about 15 or so minutes in game. However this is rarely the case since marines usually have one or so hives down and protected.
