Catalysts In Combat

<div class="IPBDescription">how do they work?</div> Alright, so I understand the theory of how catalysts work in NS. But on CO maps I'm not sure I've got it down. Mostly I'm wondering: a) What exactly does it do (speed firing rate, increase damage, etc.)? b) It seems to be automatic, but what exactly triggers it (it comes on sometimes when I need it, sometimes when I don't, what gives?)? c) Is it worth the upgrade point at all? d) Is it more valuable with some weapons than others? I've heard varied reports, and tried it myself, but I can't seem to nail down the specifics. I do know that I killed a Fade face to face with 3/3 upgrades, catalysts and a shottie, which seems to imply that they're (cats) at least somewhat valuable.

cats increase fire rate and movement speed. in combat they're activated once you get a kill so if you go for that skulk near the onus first you can shred that onus faster than he can say "Marine getting catalyst pack upgrade decides to kill skulk so i get pwned extremely bad cos of the fire rate and movement increase"

Awesome, thanks, Flying Fish. My other question would be how long do they last, and how much faster is the firing rate (I thought it was something like 30%, but I wasn't sure)? Oh, additionally, does it cost health like in NS? I haven't really noticed if it does or not, since I've been using it with resupply.

They no longer cost health no matter what game mode it is.

you get 25% faster movement speed and 25% faste rate of fire after you kill somebody for a couple of seconds.

catpacks are not very useful with the LMG as by the time you get your first kill you will most likely be half way through the magazine... and you would spend most of your "catpack time" reloading. Now shotties and HMGs on the other hand...
