Probably not new but I did search
Okay I came up with this idea when I realised that the distress beacon pulls live marines back to spawn as well as dead ones.
I was commanding a game where we were winning and I wanted to
hit a hive with a HA train but my rines were ramboing all over the map so I used the beacon to force them back to base all at once so I could kit them all out together.
This gave me a better idea on the next map tho... rines were kind of losing with the aliens having about 5 RTS which wasn't good and a second hive almost built, we were trying to siege the aliens starting hive but the aliens were putting up a hell of a fight and a fade/lerk double act was kind of ending it.
So I kept telling my rines to all PG to the starting hive to keep fighting while I sent the best marine on a mission to the other hive which he found was empty except for some OCs, I had him build a PG just outside while I spawned shottys, ammo and mines at base; the second the PG went up at the second Hive I hit the distress beacon to call all the marines back to base.
They all grabbed the shotties and went through the PG to the second hive and had it down in less than 5 seconds! the aliens were all still chewing the TF and sieges at their first hive when they lost the second hive
Cool thing is the servers that I play on the most I have started seeing it used quite a bit since I first tried it out, the speed of it makes it such a powerful strat, I got to see it done earlier as a normal rine and as a fade while I was atracking a lone rine at who was knifing an RT he dissapeared then 2 seconds later the hive is getting attacked 3 seconds and it was dying
This is very similar obviously to a PG rush with the exception that your marines can go from attacking 1 hive or doing whatever it is they are doing to attacking another with speed and suprise. When I hit the beacon a few of the aliens said "WTH?" while some saw that I had hit the beacon but failed to realise the danger because they stayed to chew the stuff I had at their first hive.
