    Imagine a 5 layer Onos!

Poor marines. You kill one and unveil the layers beneath. It's like an onion, the more you peel it the more it makes you cry.

Please disregard the comments this player makes towards Friendly Fire. I realize he is a generally-well respected member of the NS community, and that he is credited on ns_origin, but his viewpoints on FF in NS are COMPLETELY wrong and when he is on a Friendly Fire enabled server his conduct is completely unacceptable.

He joined a full public server with friendlyfire enabled and then proceeded to TK his teammates, and shoot the IPs to death. He was first told FF was on, and that he was damaging said structures, and as he refused to stop the attitude towards him became increasingly hostile. I left the game to try to find some admins, but before I left he sent a message to the extent of: Friendly fire is ok for Combat but is NEVER good in regular NS. Which should speak volumes as to his understanding of FF, and potentially NS in general.

In my opinion, NS isn't designed for Friendly Fire.

The server I play on has had friendly fire enabled for around 6 months (we used to use mp_tournamentmode 1 when it was still 2.01) and it plays very very well. It requires the players on the server to be more aware of what they are attacking, and I honestly believe that just playing with it on makes you a much better player in general.

I don't think its a great idea for begining players, or people who can't restrain themselves, but if you have a large regular player base with a good set of admins on your server it can work very well.

what the guy above me said really, on a good server with regular players it can work really well.

I'd have to say that ff does not suit combat though, and nor does it on a random pub - as half the time you'll be unable to fire for the headless chickens running around infront of you D:

    servers:

ntfm runs reg nights twice a week with ff and tourney on (www.ntfm.org)

skulkrush servers also run ff, though the level of play there can be a bit hit and miss (or rather miss them, hit you)

I made this question in 2.1 and wonder if things have changed in 3.0: do charge, leap, xenocide and spore cloud harm you teammates when FF is on? And bile bomb, does it harm your structures? Do mines explode when you fire/throw a grenade on then?
  • JazzXJazzX cl_labelmaps ∞ Join Date: 2002-11-19 Member: 9285Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester
Charge, leap and Xenocide all, without a doubt, do damage to friendly players and/or structures. Spores do NOT do friendly fire damage as they would probably be completely useless if they did. Bilebomb will damage friendly structures (though, like all FF, they only take damage at 1/3 the rate the attack would normally do). Marine fire can set off mines and the resulting explosion will cause damage to nearby structures/lifeforms (both hostile and friendly). To detonate a mine with a grenade (either from a GL or a just a hand nade) the nade needs to either make direct contact with the mine, setting both of them off on contact, or the grenade needs to basically come to rest within a foot or so of the mine to cause it to explode.

Id love to see FF on by default, u can kill a few marines with heavy weapons as skulk. u just leap into the middle of them and let them rip each other up. It just means marines actually need to think before they shoot.

Bilebomb and xeno do NO friendly fire damage.

I said nades would be spammed but no body lissened, you would think someone woukd have played a multi-player game with nades before...
