I'd put the blame on the current Steam HLDS build for Linux. Check the Steampowered.com Linux support forums out, it's pretty much a Steam wide issue with high CPU usage under Linux.

fortunaly valve is working really hard on the linux system right now.
they have a public test server they are trying things out on so that they can help the linux servers out. they plan to have a release soon to help (or so i hear).

P.S. doesn't help ns to much but other mods it will alot. there is a new sv_ command to allow you to redirect map (and other) downloads from your server to a web site for faster dling (like 5 sec map dls not 2 min)

I don't know how much CPU my computer uses when playing NS3 beta 3 but it's good enough that my 650 mhz machine can keep up with it without any lag at all. it has 128 megs of ram.

reason linux sux atm is coz the noobs at steam relased a port version of the server clients which is crap.

Hopefully they have got off their arses for the new linux build and will make it worth my time getting linux server again, but i found a provider that cpsts same for both <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
