Different Protocol Than Servers...

<div class="IPBDescription">help plz</div> i wanna play beta 3 on WON i cant only seem to play version 2.01 games. when i try to connect to beta 3 game it either says i cannot connect to the server or the server is using a different protocol then me or something. does anyone know what i can do to fix this

NS Beta 3 versions can only be used with the Steam Client. So you have to use Steam to play NS Beta 3, and WON to play NS 2.01.

... so ur telling me that these people magically got beta3 servers up and running. i am accually able to connect to them now. i copied my steam nsp folder over to my halflife and that allowed me to connect. i can only play for able 15 seconds until the game boots me and sends be to a screen which only has the backgound of the console showing... i dont get it. why would it allow me to join then like screw up my game after like 15 seconds.

i tried to use ns 3.0 beta 3 to play on won today. the "your protocol is 46, the server's is 47..." depends on the hl-update - i GUESS (the actual hl-version which was updated via steam is 1.1.1.2 - or protocol 47 as is outlined in the upper right corner).

i'm not shure whether it works, b-cause i didn't try on my own:
if you have made a backup of your actual hl-(WON)-directory, you should copy the whole hl-stuff from steam to your hl directory.
but i'm not shure (perhaps i should try it on my own but i don't believe my own idea *ggg*).

try adding this commandline to your shortcut

protocol <protocol no.>

Where <protocol no.> is the protocol nuber the server is running.

If it doesn't work, then update HL/CS retail

And if that <b>still</b> doesn't work, your only choice is to get steam.

EDIT : Another thing you might want to try is actually activating your nsp mod instead of running regular HL.
