<div class="IPBDescription">Well, its been awhile...</div> You know. I just wanna be assured that its getting worked on, cuz I'm holding my breath for it.
Just a rough percentage or something would be nice. And a reposting of the Stealthmod site's URL.

Plus I don't know exactly how much I can tell you. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Well.
That kinda sucks.
I want more servers and maps!
But oh well.
What ARE you doing with it DOOM?
#espionagemod =]
Here's the situation w/ the prototype (i.e. Stealthmod):
- We only want to put a lot of time into it if its something that we can release en masse, i.e. on PHL, big public release, that sorta thing. Not that we don't wub j00 guys, but if we're gonna spend a lot of time on this thing we want it to be of professional release quality, and we want to give it to as many people as possible.
- Since we want to release it to as many people as possible, we only want to release something that is of a good professional level. Not crap.
- The main hurdle right now is the fact that Stealthmod does not work on a dedicated server, this is an instant mark of doom for any mod.
Thus, if I can't get Stealthmod to work on a dedicated server, there's no point in putting any work into it at all, because we won't release it.
And so far I don't think I'll be able to get it to work w/o a at least partial re-write of the HL Rendering system.

WTH? I didn't click Submit...
Anyway, a more technical description of the problem is this:
Right now, the way the Stealth system works is your transparency level is based off the lighting level of the area the player is in. However, on a dedicated server, the server does not calculate this information (as nothing is being rendered)! If only there were a simple "Calculate this dummy" option for HLDS, everything would be a world of wonder. But alas there is no setting (as far as I know anyway), and thus a re-write of the HL Renderer would be needed to make HLDS calculate the lighting level.. somehow...
So if there's any experienced coders out there that would like to offer a suggestion or guidance to this problem, by all means please do. I'm just a n00b to the SDK and so I don't really have that well of an idea how to do something as complicated as what I need to do...

btw the website is <a href='http://www.espionagemod.com' target='_blank'>http://www.espionagemod.com</a> however its currently hosed (nothing there) because we didn't care to mantain the old site as we didn't think anybody would miss us. :P
But yeah, #espionagemod on IRC is a good place to hang out if you wanna, and we also do have forums up on the above linked site if you care to stop by.
what she said! or he.. w/e gem is... lol
I have the 2nd best : Ask Max <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Yeah, I tried at both several months ago, plus I talked to 3 of the top HL coders I know, and if I recall correctly I may have even talked to someone at Valve (but I'm not sure on this one). The general consensus is, its impossible w/o a re-write of the renderer. :(
The current stealth system is in fact based upon a very rough hack idea that someone brought up on VERC's Forums...
