not me anymore :-/
I was in the market for a MMOG to play last month... and I rediscovered UO which I beta tested many years ago but didn't want to pay to play. so I played it for a month... until today... today, I just lost a BOD book with 90 BODs in it, due to a newbie mistake... to the majority of you who don't know the game, it basically contained an entire month's worth of my tailor and blacksmith character's work. gone in an instant. what a frustrating game. that's it for me.
</vent>
so that this topic has a point, anyone play/enjoy UO for any length of time? really, it's not a bad MMORPG, probably on par with RO... just not very newbie friendly...

My computer just got reformated due to a virus, I lost 4 years worth of data, including:
My Diablo 2 characters
Everything HL (it was the largest folder, due to all the mods)
ALl my saved games, high scores, blah blah from everything that I decided to keep on there.
Remember kids, back up is your friend...
Oh, did I mention 20 pages of the book I was writing.....
but yeah, most of you guys have me beat... Burr, that really sux -- what's your book about? I've been thinking about writing something myself...
OMG you own so much because you paid 300 bucks in real cash for a fake ingame item :-\

omg so true, the asshats thing =P I posted something in the forums and you couldn't count how many ppl called me n00b and idiot and such...
so I promptly reminded them they need to take a look at themselves and get a life if all they have to be elitist about is a 5 year old MMORPG...
it definitely gets old fast
I had a bad UO addiction. I miss UO. *curls into fetal ball*
i lost my BG2 and NWN saves by starting a new game and accidentally quicksaving over it, but now i always save a proper non quicksave file when i quit, and i lost my almost 100% GTA3+vice save when i accidentally saved over it cos i always save in the same slot
overwiting game saves blows
STAY THE HELL AWAY!!!!
I lost 9 damn months to that game *shudder*... I want them back ;_;

Exactly! It destroyed my HL gaming clan a few years ago due to it's life draining properties. We were a bloody good clan aswel......
Yes. I have felt the addiction also. Towards the end I got bored and joined one of the roleplaying guilds. It's fun to go from pwning balrons and fire elementals with l33t hax0r magic to bashing other players over the head with a blunt broadsword whilst in battle formation with your unit
A great big cookie with chocolate chips to anyone who knows the correct responses to these:
"In the name of the founder!"
and
"In the name of the virtues!"
and really, that's not the only reason I'm quitting, that just clenched it... I just did everything I care to do
Accidentally (being half asleep) clicking my hardcore mule in D2:LOD, rather than my actual character, and merrily wandering it into Baal's chamber through a TP, carrying a few complete Elite Sets.
Predictably, it instantly died. I wept.
He had his account estimated by a guy from PlayerAuctions and it's apparently worth upwards of $1000, but I'm not sure if I believe that or not. If it is true, I have no idea why he hasn't sold it yet.
as for your phrases Nil, I'm totally lost and google isn't helping
It was even more funny when a non-roleplayer walked by and saw us all in neat ranks performing battle drills or marches, and we have to stay in character of course when they start saying things like "OMG you're all dressed the same!". We had to refer to anyone acting out-of-character as a "taint", and therefore anything they might do (such as leaving their pet dragon on the parade ground) was an illusion and had to be ignored.
Here is a typical situation:
Seargent: "Right trainee's, line up, we're going ta do a spot of drill pratice"
Trainees: *groan*
Seargent: "Sharrup and get in line!"
*random person walks by*
Random person: "OMG! You're all dressed the same!"
Guardsman: "Aye, it's out uniform civvie"
Random person: "WTH??"
Trainee: "Wha does 'WTH' mean sah?"
Seargent: "Ignore the taint trainee"
Random person: "Can I join??? I'm an 80.1% mage!"
Seargent: "WITCHERY!"
Random person: "WTH???"
Trainee: "Shall we burn him sir?"
Seargent: "Aye trainee, get the firewood ready"
Random person "You guys are weeeird" *leaves*
Ah, you've brought all the memories back now; getting pwned by the undead on my first day, executing a captured orc, whipping a trainee who disobeyed orders, being caught drunk on duty and getting put in the cells for half-an-hour, and, of course, getting kidnapped by a bunch of druids and being used for a human sacrifice. Aaaaah good days.
Personally im a big fan of NWN the complexity of the levels and the fact you can make just about anything if you put your head to it just makes the game so fun. Plus multiplayer is FREE !!!!
If you dont want the RPG elements of NWN just go with diablo 2, very simple hack and slash, kill as much as you can as fast as you can next to no RPG elements in mutiplayer.
Ive also heard very good things about SC online but ive played it once and just about everyone is so skilled it makes ya head explode.
As for other games my 56k limits what i can play a hell of alot, HL is just about the only FPS i can play due to the excellent netcode, ive played NOLF aswell online and thats quite fun, not to 56k freindly though. As for games like AVP2 my 56k has a heart attack and drops dead. Shame really as its fun online
