... you find yourself fighting better when you defend the hive? I don't know what it is, but when the hive is under attack, I can manouver better and place my attacks better.
I made a demo of people picking up mines on one end of a phase gate then phasing and dropping them on the other side, you can clearly see that all people after sometime cannot do the task very easily and make mistakes. Which I found very interesting (also from the comm view it looked like warcraft ).
You dont fight better, its just that the hive is healing you while youre near the hive, so you stay alive longer and hence get more kills and do more damage.

Assuredly. One time in 1.04, back when we still had nancy, the marines were pushing on our only have with heavy armor. It's not to say we hadn't been expanding, but the marine com rushed straight up the tech tree to HA and had few nodes to support it. As a result, we had about 6 HAs heading to mother hive with LMGs and shotguns. Not as dangerous as some HA trains, but certainly dangerous enough considering we were a team of skulks and two lerks.
The marines attacked from the hallway enterance. The primary advantage of this being then had to squeeze through the narrow enterance door one at a time, and we were all waiting for them. The first two came through one at a time. The lerks umbraed and then bit, and the skulks bit. The first two fell under a sea of skulks and lerks. Then, the marines smartened up a little, and three more came through. The fourth was evidently trying to follow, but couldn't because of the sheer number of skulks and lerks at the door were blocking their movement. The other three HA fell under the jaws and claws of our little horde, and from there, it was childs play to track down the last HA. By this point, the marine res was wasted, and it took them long to get back on their feet. In that time, we managed to get the second hive and the advantage, eventually winning.

I don't think I ever really get much into the groove like that. Usually the only time I get pumped up is when I'm killing tons of marines at the beginning of the game. But with the addition of combat to NS, seems like alot of people are getting really good aim. Which is good, but bad at the same time .
I wasn't being sarcastic, ziggy. This actually happened. When I refrenced "having one hive" this was back in 1.04 when 90% of marine commanders instantly rushed for one hive and locked it down to avoid aliens getting three hives. We had two hives total, but we had only secured one (from the marines). Because the marines tech pushed to HA, they didn't secure the third hive. However, before we could affoard it (this was 1.04, hives were eighty, there was no RFK, and gorges got res faster - but it was still a little slow in most cases.) If they had pushed the less-defended satcom, they would have probally won - but we had the advantage and buggered off lerks at mother interface. Also note this was a pub game on nano-gridlock.
ok so... you HAD 2 hives cause you could umbra? And then you were concerned you wouldnt get the second hive up? And at hive 2 you get web... against partially upgraded marines? ...
Im confused as to how anyone would be concerned in a game where they have 2 hives and res towers.
i sweat sometimes, without noticing it if i get really into the game. i start to feel damp. And occasionaly when im playing something like EOD the vietnam mod for bf1942, ill be firing an m60 out of the machine gun, and feel like screaming "GET SOME! GET SOME!" like i was in full metal jacket when i gun other players down.

It hardly ever happens because I usually cant get everyone to shoot at the same time, but when I can, its like OMFGPWNROFLMAOLOL!!!
