<div class="IPBDescription">Something a little different</div>(1st of a 5 part alien series, inspired by recent playtesting)
Warm, safe, motherhive nourishes us, feeds us, propels our evolution.
Deep inside gestating,
slowly we learn of each other, our brood, our brothers.
Our hive mind expands
as we break free our liquid bounds and
breathe.
What is this place? The air is processed, so crisp, foul, dry.
Something is not right with it, too constricting almost -burning-.
Another presence? No matter. The hive mother compels us - act swiftly.
My brethren move, scamper, rush from our mother.
Outward spreading we explore, searching for the intruders.
Searching for the harsh grinds and scrapings of metal against metal that poison our blood and sicken our brood's hive mind.
Over under through the mechanisms of our intruders
Our razor claws click on their smooth slick grates and then.
Silence
We wait for them.
So far from our mother hive,
So far from its moist warm protection.
It echoes to us faintly. Eradicate, destroy.
We hear them now. Shouting.
Sparks spatter as they build another jagged construction. Click Clack they ready their noisy weapons.
We sense their clever plans.
They are moving now coming closer.
We wait. Hidden in the darkness.
Hidden in the wet steam for them to pass us slowly, underneath, unaware.
So close I can almost taste them.
Their flesh. So vulnerable beneath their
thin plating. So close I must hold back.
Waiting. Waiting until
Now
We move at once - executing with linked awareness. Ambushing...Biting at their heels as they turn and spin. Weapons fire. The steel sears my hide. But I have tasted. Tasted the flesh of the intruder. Their shell is but a carcass now as I feed.
Slam as they fall forward to the ground. Their weapons useless now slide across the floor. Their blood on
my teeth is warm. It tastes of their metal, of the foul electric steel and iron from where they came.
Repelled, repulsed they have retreated.
Retreated to their illusion of safety behind their harsh turrets. We crouch panting, fatigued but vigilant. With swift glee we chuckle to each other.
But we are fewer now.
Fewer though only for now as our hive breeds more of us to contain them. For our hive mind has indeed expanded. We have a new -awareness-.
Our parasites have spread through the few invaders that narrowly escaped our jaws. It calls to us from within - deep within them. Their weakened ones now our beacons.
We smell and sense their movement behind the obstructions.
Their actions are all too apparent.
They too are growing, rebuilding, repairing.
Their reinforcements are arriving, bringing new weaponry - bringing the sure promise of a new pain to our hive. The threat looms before us. A threat greater than our hive mother and our skulking brood can contain alone. We too must grow, must evolve. I must evolve....
