Currupt?

HellBringerHellBringer Join Date: 2004-02-17 Member: 26641Members
I was just workin on my map and when i went to compile it said i had coplanar faces or we. but on brushes that have been fine. i deleted like 10 brushes that are easily replacable but now its saying its brushes that have been in the map for a long time. and its specifically marking a certain texture even if the brush doesnt have it. my overlay texture. Has my map currupted or what. I swear hammer and all that stuff makes me POED now i remember why i quit mapping in the firstplace.

Coplanar faces are caused when two seperate faces share the same flat plane. This is usually caused by Hammer's rounding errors when compiling, usually as a result of vertex manipulation. This one is usually fairly easy to fix since it tells you where the problem is, and the brush can be fixed without changing it's shape. I don't know exactly how the compile tools do their error reporting, but they've always seemed to tell me the correct texture on the errored face. If it's giving you some strange reports it might be a more serious error that's causing it. Also, you might want to try mapping in QuArK, which has built-in checks and safeguards for errors including coplanar faces.

well there is the problem its saying a brush entity that has no vertex manipulation has both a plane with no normal... what is that? and a coplanar plane. Also it seems to just be going through ALL my brushes starting with the most recent. i delet the one with error it goes to the next. i believe i started out at around 180 and am now down to 160. also in my editor things are starting too look weird. how do i take a screen shot in my editor?

PrtScn, to the right of F12, then open paint or something and hit "Paste".

Hammer's having issues exporting your brushes -- a plane with no normal occurs when all three points that are supposed to describe a triangle are in the same line. When that happens, an infinite number of planes could include that line and the compiler chokes.

Try HLFix to convert from rmf to map and see if that fixes the problem. When using Hammer's built-in exporter, you need to avoid any use of the carve, split, or vertex manipulation tools that puts any corner of a brush off of the 1 unit grid because Hammer rounds coordinates to integer values on export.
